Miss Bea's Ting-A-Ling Cardigan

Okay, I love Miss Bea's Band and so does my mini. I don't know if it was planned by the person who designed the book's layout or just a coincidence, but my mini just loves the layout of the Miss Bea's books more than I do. My mini just loves so many of the sweaters which makes the all of Miss Bea's books worth every cent.
After finishing Tinkerbell, I had left over pink and purple and my mini requested the Ting-A-Ling Cardigan. She later requested that I reverse the colors so I thought no problem. Consider it done.

Well, its done alright. When I originally said yes I must have thought that I had a few pink skeins and at least one purple. Well the reality is, I have one pink and a few purple, which you can see from the photo, is all knit up. That would have been enough to knit the sweater as photographed. I have checked all of my local cotton-ease sources and there is none to be found. So I guess it was over before it began.

I do love the ruffle though.

Grace

gracealong.gif
I just finished Kate, am still working on Audrey and now there is Grace.
Lisa started this great knitalong and though I was determined to finish up other alongs before I joined another, here I am.

I just did a bit to make a knit commit to the project.

I am using GGH soft kid. It’s a new yarn and fiber for me all around. I'm not groovin' with the mohair at the moment, but am committed to trying new fibers to completion before ultimately making a decision on the yarn. I have had this yarn for a while and have been a little nervous about using it but I am excited to finally have a great pattern and the wonderful Lisa to encourage its usage. So now I have a few things to finish before I continue.

Windmill AGAIN!

I have definitely exceeded the amount of entries I want to have on one sweater. And its a mini sweater. I should be done already. But now the button band is just slowing me down and I really want to get into that "knit smarter, not faster club" Is there a "knit smarter and faster club", lol? All jokes aside, it's just the fear of the unknown really slowing it down. I have never done a button band so it just startitis. Maybe if I look at this pic enough I'll just do it ALREADY!

Here's a close-up. Instead of trying to measure to see how long it should be I am just knitting and seaming as I go. I never have much luck measuring things and having them fit nicely to another piece. This makes it easy and when I reach the top I don't have to seam it. Buttonholes, they're just buttonholes, right! Wait a minute. Maybe I can work it like the button holes on Anouk. Ah ha!

Also, I think I should try to get a small button stash going. I have not had a need for buttons until Kate, but I am now trying to knit more cardigans and never realized how hard it is to find buttons when you need them. I am still searching for buttons for Anouk and I guess I should add Windmill to mix, and I would like to have a few more cardies for my mini by fall.

You guessed it!

Anouk!

I have a few details to work out and then I will post finished and posing shots of Anouk. This was an upsized version for my mini in a size 4. It has been so much fun working with this pattern and I feel it is one must have in an array of colors, so the Anouk bus definitely won't stop here. Also, I think this will replace some of the traditional items that I have knit in the past for baby gifts as I still want to do one of the suggested pattern sizes. It's also a great all year knit that you can give any time without having to guess what size the babe will be once winter rolls around.

Becky's lovely flower pattern

Saw this great flower over at fluffa! I just love it! It was so quick and easy. I know there will be many of these on my upcoming knits.

Can you guess where this one will be appearing?
Thanks again to Becky!

More on the Windmill

Made a bit more progress on my little heart cardie. Inspired by Becky's mention of using a crochet hook to pick up stitches, I gave it a go on the sleeves. Amazing the difference in the look and just overall effort involved in picking up stitches.

I don't know if I will use the needles again for this task. I usually end up with big holes from the needle and what I find to be a little mess at the join line, but it was all cake with the hook. I will never look at picking up stitches the same way again. What a tip! It created a clean look and was much faster without tugging and distorting existing stitches with the needle.

Here's where I am at with the whole thing.

Thanks Becky!

Gallery Update: Interweave Knits Fall 2002 Orbit Pullover

Project Specs:
Pattern: Interweave Knits Fall 2002 Orbit Pullover pg. 84
Suggested Yarn: Artful Yarns Museum
Yarn Used: Artful Yarns Museum( #5 Gift Shop Green)
Needle Size: US 13 (9mm)
Gauge: 9 sts/4" in St st

A gallery has been in the planning stages before I even made my first post. Its gone from I will complete my gallery before I start blogging to I'll get to it when I get to it. So now I have decided to just do it one project at a time and maybe I won't feel so overwhelmed by the process.
So here it goes.
I love this sweater and the relaxed comfy fit and the fact that it was knit all in one piece from front to back. I thought it looked easy to knit and decided to just go for it missing the "worked in once deceptively simple piece" in the brief description. Sometimes overlooking details works out. If I had known what I was getting into I would have not attempted it, but I am so glad I did.
Here's the neck opening and the cable.

Love the pattern pic; I may need one in blue, too.

A seam dream.

FYI: I am starting my gallery with some knits from last year. This is not a recently completed knit. I wish I could knit that fast, lol! I'll have to note completed 2003 on entries that have specs for knits completed prior to blog creation. I just want to include pattern notes, etc. in an entry in case I want to refer back to a particular pattern or modify it in the future.

Hearts and flowers in blue

Made some progress on Miss Bea's windmill. Gave the short rows a go. Won't be sure exactly how well I did until I actually work the neck. Love that 3-needle bind off on the shoulders though. Much quicker than trying to seam the ladder that's for sure. The remaining neck stitches are on holders. Trying to decide whether to knit them off or bind them off which I hear makes for a sturdier neckline. Was surprised at how easy short rowing was to work. Just got slightly confused with the back. Had to wrap and turn all over the place, but I am optimistic that it will work out just fine. The shoulders ended up matching stitch for stitch so hopefully that's a good sign. Next I am going to attempt to pick up sleeves and knit down since I have the luxury of a chart when it come to reversing the increases/decreases. And then there will be the issue of the button bands. The pattern notes to pick up and knit, but I think I will knit in the same direction of the knitting and attach them so I don't have shrinking up for the body of the sweater and shrinking in for the bands.

Here take a look.

click for close-up
And here's one of the knitted flowers that I attached to a hat. Still trying to decide whether or not to put on on the scarf. Might require too much effort when getting mini out the door to insure flower is in view.
We'll have to see.

Anouk

Anouk has been calling my name lately and a comment from Julia was enough to get me started again. Love those gentle reminders. I have so many projects on the needles sometimes it takes a mention to get me back on track. Here's the back

and a close-up of the border.

Such a quick knit, too. I don't know what I have been waiting for.

Artful Yarns Museum Bag

Blast from the past.
wmuseumbag.gif
Project Specs:
Pattern: Artful Yarns
Suggested/Used Yarn: Artful Yarns Museum (Color 8 Pivoine)
Needle Size: 13
Gauge: approx. 9sts/4in

I opted for a crochet edge rather than the ribbed edging and I am pretty happy with it. Okay, really I picked up 132 stitched around the handle TWICE and just wasn't pleased with how it turned out. It just looked more chunky than the body of the bag. As always, the truth prevails. I must admit that I love how it can go across your chest and you can just swing it around to get what you need. I would like to put in a lining.

Any tips for sewing one in?

(just noticed that strap noted with smaller needles pick up 132, what smaller needles, I only used one size, wonder if I noticed that before, lol)

Must READ pattern, not glance at pattern.

SpringKnit-UpButton.jpg
Yep, another one and more to come. Georgia, can I have an extension, lol.

Miss Bea's Windmill Cardigan

This is the Windmill Cardigan from Miss Bea's Colours. I love the hearts in the pattern which gives a little design without the effort of intarsia despite the fact that mine are more heartlike than actual hearts as in the pattern. I think its due to the fact that my knit tension differs from my purl tension. I need to figure out exactly so I can use two different needle sizes to remedy the tension problem. Wow, use two different needles on purpose, that will be a switch. I do that all the time now. However, not in a way that would help my knitting, LOL!

This will be my first button band too. Lookin' forward to it. I have the back on a holder for neck shaping 'cause I am determined not to walk up and across the ladder again. Better look in my reference books soon or I am going to run outta holders.

Thank you

It's really hard to articulate how much I have appreciated the encouragement, comments, detailed help in working through my projects and just downright great reads that I have experienced here in blogdom. I have not ever been so inspired to not only knit to completion, but attempt to knit as well I can with the knowledge I now have. Which is so much more thanks to such generous, kind and talented knitters.

I don't mean to get sentimental and believe me I'm not one to let people see how soft I really am, but I really am moved by the friendship and mutual respect that exist and for that I am eternally grateful. Even the word gratitude doesn't seem to suffice.

The words just don't represent my appreciation, but just have to say thank you.

Kate

Wkatefiniunblcked.gif
She hasn't been blocked yet, but I was too excited to wait to try her on. Not too keen on the sleeve length at the moment, but hoping after I block her and shrink her a bit she will be just the right length all around. Loved this pattern and would like to give the sleeveless version a try. And maybe this version without the fluctuating gauge, lol.

Project Specs:
Pattern: 4a from Phildar Famille Spring 2004
Suggested Yarn: Phildar Aviso
Yarn Used: Lion Brand Cotton-Ease
Needle Size: US 7(knit a lit' loose, should have used 6)
Gauge: 17st/4in(unfortunately sometimes 16st/4in)

Flowers

I have always loved Georgia's Crochet Flower Pattern. I just hadn't thought my crochet skills were up to it. But after seeing Alison progress quickly from flowers to a fine pair of slippers, I thought I'd give them a whirl.

Then I looked at a Lola hat from Rowan babies that has been waiting on the knitted flower in the pattern and decided to just get that outta the way as well. Just used some scraps I had around. I'll have to attach them and take pics soon.

Mags in the Mail

Subscribed to Knitting a while back and have just started receiving issues, however nothing really spoke to me at first glance in this issue, but I do think it has a lot of interesting attributes for a new mag.
wknittingjune2004.gif
June/July 2004

I do enjoy the yarn reviews, knitting competitions, Ask Jean (Jean Moss),new yarn sources that appear in this mag versus the US mags I see in my local bookstores, large print patterns and what seems to be a more relaxed way to notate patterns (not the typical let me use the smallest font and put this whole 5 page pattern on one page that I often see.) On most accounts, charts are on one page. And they are printed at the largest size possible and there are many pictures of the garment from different angles. As you can tell I am wooed by large print and many pictures. Especially when it comes to the techniques section which has large pics of the stitches you are manipulating in order to learn the technique rather than the tiny pics that make it impossible for me see. Is is just me? However, I do like more of the patterns from the previous issues that I have seen.

And one of my favorite sections is the out and about section with progressive knitting happening like student fashion photographers joining Knitting photo shoot and a piece called Craft Rocks at the V&A and this pic from Graduate Fashion Week:

wknittingpicjun04.gif
Ok, how can the same scanner that scanned the book covers turn out an pic like this?!?

And then the love affair with Phildar continues!

wete04.gif wpitchonete04.gif
Plein Ete 2004 & Pitchon Collection Ete 2004
Phildar always speaks to me. Now, I just have narrow down my next must knits from these two.
So much to love for Phildar!

Kyoto

I have started on my second round of projects that need to move beyond the swatch. And Knitty's Kyoto is on the list.

It's a pretty quick easy knit so far, but there is just one thing that strikes me at the moment. I have a need to learn to short row. I guess I always have but until I looked at the ladder walking up and over the back of this sweater, it never really bothered me enough to make a serious attempt.
wkyotoback.gif

I also have the back of cardigan in the works and I think I will just put it on a holder until I get this short row thing worked out.

Okay, so it's not a booga bag

It started out as a booga bag. Then I thought, I don't have enough yarn for the purse straps so let me work with what I have. Next, I thought about the French market bag. I do love the handles on that bag so I'll give that a go. However, this bag was pretty deep in comparison and I wasn't sure how it would carry, so I decided to take inspiration from the SnB marsupial tote. At the time, it made sense given I have knitted that bag and have some knowledge of how that will end up.

And now I have this mystery tote

click photo for close-up

Not exactly sure what it will end up looking like, but here is a pic which includes the case for my Denise interchangeables just for size. Think its about 20''W x 30" H. Ironically, I thought that I didn't have enough yarn in my stash to possibly finish any of the bags and now its seems I could have knit all bags and a wallet to match, lol. I cast off too few for the handle so I need to rip back a few rows to bind off more. I think I could go for longer straps. The bound off stitches are barely visible in pic. Talk about too few.

I believe I am taking wingin' it to a whole 'nother level. And I have to admit, its fun! Hope I feel this way once it is felted.
