November 28, 2005Looks the same, but really it is differentYesterday I swatched for my Weasley, today for Mini's. And though the yarn is different, its still a great red. I'm a big fan of Sisik. I love the feel of it and lets face it, Min is already asking for her "Hermione" sweater so knitting in on 2's is not in the cards. And yes, we know the "H" is usually for Harry, but her's will be for Hermione. Now I adore me some Felted Tweed (even knit on 2's), but I do like a sweater knit on US 5's (crystal palace bamboo straights) at 20stsx29rows too, especially since I've already been asked "have you started mine yet?". ~Dale of Norway Sisik Color 167~Mini's Weasely sweater swatch with moma swatch looking down from above~ Harry Potter is already influencing other aspects of our day. We have homework from school, then worksheets I pick up the local Teacher's Mart and then her choice (aren't I nice) of several words to practice her handwriting. And look at a few words that made the cut. Yesterday I moved Sorcerer's Stone to the top of my queue at Netflix, but with only one chapter left I don't think its going to arrive for our finish book at breakfast followed by movie night plans I envisioned. Aww...shucks and the site indicated that there is a short wait (due to demand no doubt). I should just buy them. Holding out for that full set with 1 million hours of deleted scenes, special commentary and full sized poster with collectors items, will probably take a while, huh. I may just have to go to the video store...are they still around, lol? No really...are they? I can hardly remember life before Netflix. Gabriel García Márquez's Love in the Time of Cholera with a few works in progress (more on them later) I really enjoy reading and decided to pick up a book for myself and though I picked it up off of my bookshelf, I hope this will be the start of me being able to make time for pleasure reading on the regular.

I love Sisik too. I think I have an obsession for all things tweed this year though. It's a great choice for Mini as well since it's machine washable. And bigger gauge + smaller sweater = quicker knit! Posted by: jody at November 29, 2005 05:30 AMI'm so glad you're back! I have missed your posts. I am curious what you will think of this book. I just read it for the first time, after falling in love with Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude many years ago. Happy Reading and Knitting! Posted by: Martha at November 29, 2005 06:27 AMWelcome back Froggy. We missed you. Posted by: lisa at November 29, 2005 07:46 AMIt's so exciting to see you posting more often. Now, breakfast finish and a movie sounds pretty cool. So go get Mini her movies. She deserves them after writting all those names. Don't you think? Great book. Garcia Marquez is one of my favorites. Posted by: isel at November 29, 2005 07:59 AMIt's so hard to watch everyone make HP sweaters and not join in. I feel like eventually I'm gonna crack - especially since I have a great tweed in the right color in my stash! I haven't yet read Love in the Time of Cholera, but I really enjoy GGM's short stories. You'll have to tell us about the book. This year was all about re-gaining balance for me, and one of the things I aimed to do was read more. It makes such a difference to have books back in your life! Posted by: Julia at November 29, 2005 08:54 AMAnother Sisik lover! I just bought a ton online because I wanted some before it was all gone (did you know it is discontinued?) I made one cardigan in it, and I was in love ;) That red is so vibrant! I can't wait to see more! So glad to have you back, Froggy dear! Posted by: Lolly at November 29, 2005 09:34 AMGlad to have you back! Both yarns you chose for Weasleys look gorgeous. I love it that they are both red, yet different shades. It will look fun when you both are wearing your sweaters together. :-) Posted by: Minna at November 29, 2005 09:39 AMVery nice red! I just read Love in the Time of Cholera this fall - it was good - I think I liked his 100 Years of Solitude a little better but both were good reads. :-) Posted by: Vicki at November 29, 2005 10:32 AMI just remember that book having a starring role in Serendipity. Which is very pop culture of me, but it's the first thing I thought when I saw it! Have you had any issues with the sisik breaking? I've heard that can be an issue, but it might have been more of an knitting style issue than a yarn problem :) Posted by: Amber at November 29, 2005 10:41 AMa time before netflix? SACRILIGE! ;) Posted by: maeve at November 29, 2005 11:26 AMI've missed you too! I'm glad you're posting again. Posted by: monica at November 29, 2005 04:41 PMYou're back!!! Whew, so glad to see you again and read a bit of what you have been up to. glad to see you back. your weasley looks awesome. i just saw the new film and loved it. i never thought of the "h" for hermione but that's pretty cool. Posted by: thuy at November 29, 2005 06:53 PMThat's a great book. As long as you keep trying to read really good books you will always find the time. Do you intend to finish the Hermione sweater before Christmas, so she can wear it to school? Posted by: Pioggia at November 29, 2005 07:41 PMThe Sisik yarn is beautiful. I love the tweeds. Enjoy reading all those wonderful books. Posted by: eyeleen at November 29, 2005 09:08 PMthe handwriting practice is so precious! nice work on that hem. man, now you've got me thinking i want to do mother-daughter weasleys, and at the rate i usually go, i should probably start now so that i'll be ready by the time cocoa pebbles is ready to read the books! Posted by: mrspilkington at November 30, 2005 04:25 AMI've admired the Sisik in the skein, but the swatch is wonderful! And I see that Lolly says it's now discontinued? :( God bless Netflix! |
