November 27, 2005first off...I must begin by saying how nice it has been to have received some inquiries about where I've been or just lines dropped to say hi. I'll be responding to them individually real soon, but wanted to say that....first off. I can't find the words at the moment that do my feelings justice. I hope we can catch up soon. Thanks for thinking of me. Not quite sure where to begin knitwise, so I'll just start with today. That seems like a great place to start and then maybe I'll work my way back until I catch up with my knits in progress and bring them into the present. There's been a bit of progress, but I just need to collect all of the pieces and pull them together or figure out where I left off. Sounds a lot easier than I know it will be. I've been a bit overwhelmed with where to start, but gotta start somewhere I guess and quit draggin' my heels and get on with it. I know I'll be glad once I get in there and "just do it" already. Enough fubble...now what was I thinking about knitwise today? Well, it begins with an embarrassing revealing fact. I am....in fact...the last person on earth to read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Though I have seen the first couple of movies, I purchased a set of the books a while ago and decided that I would get into them when my mini expressed an interest in hearing them so we could experience the mayhem together. Well, a few weeks ago and now two chapters from the end has put us in the middle of a Harry Potter craze. And I have to admit, I love the fact that we are in this together. I read it to her every morning and evening and whenever she catches me without a task at had, she asks for "just a few pages, please" and as a mom moved by the magic word, I do oblige. I have to admit though, that I am just as eager to read what is next. So that brings me to this place... ~Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone~Alison's Weasley Sweater Pattern~Rowan Felted Tweed in Conker~ Big thanks to Alison who seems to provide guidance on the road to Weasely knitting and then some. I know this is just the beginning of many Potter knits since she has so kindly offered many patterns to the masses of adoring Potter fans. Don't know if you can tell, but my blocking board is a bit crowded. I have some Manos on the left and some Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky on the right. So much to block and this cold weather is really making for long drying times. Gotta move that blocking board away from the sliding glass door. That draft is quite chilly. Here's a better color representation of Rowan Felted Tweed in Conker. I got gauge on Addi US2's - 24 sts and 32rows to 4". I started out on 3's but after a few rows didn't like how loose the fiber was. I was looking through the stitches. I figured I would have to modify based on my gauge, but luckily it all worked out. A sweater on 2's will be quite a task for me I feel. Good thing I love this Rowan Felted Tweed. ~Oh Conker, how I love thee~ I just love this color and how light the fabric feels. Wish I could get my hands on some more of this color. I bought this a while back to make Rowan's Salina, (here is one that i drool over often) but I could not justify buying the book for only one pattern when I have such a backlog of must-knit patterns already in tow.

YAY! Does this mean your back? For a little while at least? I often wonder about you - glad to see you! Don't fret - I haven't read ANY of the HP books. So you're not the last one. Hope overall everything's good with you and you had a great holiday. Posted by: Cara at November 27, 2005 03:13 PMI am so happy to see that you've posted! The funny thing is that I was just thinking today that I should send you an email.I miss seeing you around the "blogosphere" and do hope you are well. The yarn for your new project is gorgeous! Posted by: Amy at November 27, 2005 03:19 PMOh it's so lovely to hear from you! I have been wondering where you were just this week. Reading HP with Mini sounds so fun, definitely worth waiting for! I love the Conker too, it's gorgeous, enjoy knitting it up! Posted by: Jo at November 27, 2005 03:34 PMGood to see you again! I love that you and mini are reading together. How fun! Posted by: Karma at November 27, 2005 04:12 PMa) good to see you're back. it's great to see your blog popup on bloglines today! we all miss you but take care of yourself and post when you can :) now as for HP -- i've yet to read them either. i'm almost afraid to at this point because i think i'll be sucked into days of doing nothing other reading until i'm all done! ps - felted tweed rocks! Posted by: jody at November 27, 2005 04:32 PMGreat to see you back! Posted by: Lauren at November 27, 2005 04:50 PMWe've all missed ya darlin'! Posted by: caro at November 27, 2005 05:18 PMI am so glad to see you post!!! I think I have 1 1/2 balls of that felted tweed -- is that shade 144? I'll send it along if that's the one you're looking for. Posted by: mrspilkington at November 27, 2005 05:21 PMHappy to hear from you again!! Do NOT tell me you gave up on Salina. Pleease. I plan on reading the Harry Potter books once I have some free time soon! Although I don't have a cutie pie to read them with, so it won't be as much fun. But still... :D Posted by: isel at November 27, 2005 06:24 PMi missed you as well! and i hope all is well with you and your family. i can't wait to see your progress on the sweater. Posted by: lynette at November 27, 2005 06:24 PMWell, you already know I've missed you enough to try to entice you out to The Other Coast this winter, so I don't really have to echo every other post! (I will though - we miss you!) I was the second to last person to read HP. While I was doing crap-work this spring I listened to the first five books on CD (you can get them at the library), and then when I drove to LA I listened to book six TWICE. If you decide that you want to listen rather than read aloud, I can highly recommend the narrator, Jim Dale. He does 133 unique voices and is spectacular. If I could drift to sleep to his voice every night, I would. What a man! Regardless of how you experience them, they're great books. Go slow, though, because by book 4 they get a bit darker (though even better). You may want to preview them before reading them to Mini. Not having kiddos myself, I'm not sure how mature a child would need to be to handle some of the HP stuff. Still excellent, but more serious. Talk to you soon! Good to see you! Posted by: Stacie at November 27, 2005 09:50 PMIt's great to hear from you, I hope all is well with you and your family. You're definitely not the last person to read HP, It's wonderful that you and Mini can enjoy the books together. Posted by: eyeleen at November 27, 2005 11:05 PMSo splendid to see you. I hope you and Mini are well, and had a nice holiday, dear Froggy! I think that it is just fabulous that you are reading to her -- some of my absolute favorite memories growing up were the times when my mom would read aloud to me and my sisters! Have fun! ;) Posted by: Lolly at November 27, 2005 11:14 PMI'm glad to see you back. I hope all is well. Posted by: chica at November 27, 2005 11:27 PMIt's great to see you! Posted by: Wendy at November 28, 2005 09:14 AMGlad to see you back! I didn't want to be tug at your virtual sleeve like a toddler, esp. since I am a sporadic blogger who hypocritcally expects regular updates from my favorites! As you progress in the HP series they get better and better. Listening to them while knitting is a real treat, and almost every book has some mention of knitting, which totally tickles me. Enjoy =) Posted by: Cirilia at November 28, 2005 09:44 AMHi Froggy! I have often wondered if you were doing ok and am so glad to see you back! I look forward to seeing all the knitting you have been working on. Posted by: Karen at November 28, 2005 10:32 AMShe's alive! Good to see you. Posted by: claudia at November 28, 2005 12:16 PMWell sure we miss you, but everyone knows that sometimes life gets in the way of stuff... You're not the only person who's still making their way through Mr. Potter... Posted by: Sil at November 28, 2005 01:58 PMYay for Froggy-news! It's great to hear from you!! I always check, even when my bloglines says you haven't posted, just to make sure... I love that Rowan Felted Tweed.... that is such great stuff. And I am exactly the same as you with Salina - I have wanted to make that one for a long while now but can't justify the book OR the yarn with everything else already sitting there waiting to be knitted. (But it sure is pretty, isn't it??) Posted by: Kathy at November 28, 2005 04:15 PMGlad you are back! I LOVE felted tweed and am so happy you are part of Alison's KAL!
