Froggy Knits

In case you didn't know...

~check out my mottled sweater trying to sneak in from the right~

...knitting linen drape on size us 1's and 2's in ribbing makes for very slow knitting (yeah, i know you already knew that). I'm the only one that didn't anticipate just how slow it would go, but it was quite fun wearing clapotis and my new favorite tee while knitting on it. “Sunny day, sweepin’ the clouds away, ...Can you tell me how to get, How to get to Sesame Street?” This was my present from mini on my last birthday. I just love it! Never realized how great it goes with clapotis (and yes i realize that is just my opinion, hee, hee)!

But a now a bit on linen drape. I don't know if I'm lacking on vitamins or what but for some reason I want to eat it. I remi nds me of Post shredded wheat biscuits that I used to munch on all the time (until i was actually just sick of them to be exact). I need to head to the grocer. I had forgotten all about them. And now after my shredded wheat comment you are not going to believe this, but it feels really great. It feels soft, but just looks crunchy. Okay, I think I'm making it worse, but its cool...really.

~very interesting texture, huh?~

I remember reading a lot of negatives surrounding this fiber though the specifics escape me at the moment. I, however really like it. It has such and organic (is that the right word) feel to. I had to drop pretty far down in needle size to get my desired look of the fabric from what the pattern suggested. I think I have it the way I want it so far though it turned out quite small. I'll have to knit a larger size if I want one of these for myself. Oh and by the way, this is moonbeam from Rowan 29.

So funny! As I was finishing up my clapotis last night - I was totally thinking of yours! It looks wonderful.

I wasn't getting the shredded wheat reference until the last picture - the ends totally look shredded. Thanks for sharing!

It does look yummy! :) Teeninsy needles, but the linen drape is worth it!

You are right, the Clapotis is a perfect match! The blues in your Clap are the same colors as Cookie Monster and Grover :)

Your Linen Drape is lovely, Froggy.

Hope you had a nice long weekend with Mini :)

I love the texture of that yarn. The top is going to look great!
Your tee looks like it was meant for your Clapotis. Perfect match!
Oh and by the way, I'll be cursing you for the rest of the day for putting that song in my head! Sunny day.....

I love that tank, its gorgeous. I didn't get on with Linen Drape when I tried to knit with it before though. Maybe I should include my few balls with your parcel tomorrow...

The clapotis and the tee are a perfect combination!

As for the linen drape, I haven't knit with it before, but I love the texture. I can't wait to see your finifhed tank.

your LD is coming along nicely! i'm glad to see i'm not the only LD-along slacker :)

i have a love/hate relationship with the yarn. sometimes it seems to wash up beautifully and other times it seems to get almost crispy with a washing. have you tried wetting/blocking yours at all? i'm wondering if maybe a 5-10 minute run in the dryer would help soften it up a bit (although i'm skiddish about shrinkage too)

Posted by: jody at May 31, 2005 08:38 AM

I haven't used the linen drape...but I am loving the way yours is knitting up!

I also have a sesame street shirt...Pixie got me mine (oscar the grouch) for when I have grumpy days! hehehe!

I am glad to hear you like Linen Drape. I have some sitting in the stash that I love the color of and hope to knit up sometime this summer. Yours is looking great!

Posted by: Karen at May 31, 2005 08:48 AM

I haven't used linen drape yet but I have had it in mind for a while. The colour is absolutely gorgeous. I am interested to hear about your washing / blocking experiences.

Posted by: tacha at May 31, 2005 09:02 AM

That is a gorgeous color.

Posted by: claudia at May 31, 2005 09:47 AM

Perfect match, I love it!

Posted by: Colleen at May 31, 2005 10:03 AM

I think your shirt and clapotis match perfectly - I can't wait to make one (clapotis) myself!

Posted by: Marie at May 31, 2005 10:31 AM

I'm sure your Linen Drape will be great(gorgeous color, as always)! And I LOVE your tee, I need one :) !

That Rowan top is *really* cute. Now I want to try out the Linen Drape, too!

Posted by: Karma at May 31, 2005 11:00 AM

Not being able to feel it, it sure LOOKS nice. AND that color is to die for.

Posted by: Norma at May 31, 2005 11:28 AM

I love how the clapotis colors go with your Sesame Street colors! Great! That linen drape looks incredible all knit up... Can't wait to see more progress on that!

Posted by: Dani at May 31, 2005 11:29 AM

Orange, orange, orange! I love it! I love the combo Clapotis and the Sesame Street T. I love Grover and Ernie!

Posted by: Christie at May 31, 2005 11:30 AM

I love that tee! My new favorite tee is a pink Grover tee shirt. He's wearing his Super Grover outfit and it says "Super Fly"

Posted by: cari at May 31, 2005 11:30 AM

Another great sweater coming up, so it seems. Clap is perfect for covering the shoulders while knitting.

Posted by: margene at May 31, 2005 11:35 AM

That's going to be one fine looking summer top. I love the color.

Posted by: Amy at May 31, 2005 12:34 PM

I *love* your sesame street shirt! I want one :). I also am really liking the looks of linen drape. they have it at my lys so I will go check it out.

Posted by: Moni at May 31, 2005 02:27 PM

I love the colors of your Clapotis. It really does go with the tee.

Posted by: Liz at May 31, 2005 02:48 PM

I've never even touched linen yarn before, but now I'm intrigued! Love the T, by the way. Mini has great taste!

Posted by: Tara at May 31, 2005 03:05 PM

What a funky outfit! I love the t-shirt/clapotis combo. Your linen drape looks lovely and organic too. Delicious.

moonbeam is really pretty - yes that texture is really cool. I'm trying to figure it out -looks like what we call "patent" or "half-patent" in norwegian - I think it's called fisherman's rib in eng.? but not quite - yours looks double - hm..very interesting. Really nice - and your clap. is wonderful - and the T ; love it, I absolutely share your affection for green! :)

Posted by: karen at May 31, 2005 04:48 PM

I want that shirt!

Posted by: Niki at May 31, 2005 04:59 PM

Oh, how I hate bloglines. I'm missing your posts thanks to bloglines not showing any updates for you.

I love that t-shirt and your Clapotis is beautiful. It makes me think of the one I WAS making.

That top is looking good, too. Love the orange.

Posted by: isel at May 31, 2005 06:10 PM

Your clapotis matches that Sesame St. T perfectly. I'm not sure I believe that was an accident. ;-) Very cute. Looks like your making pretty good progress on moonbeam - I've already said it but it's worth saying again how much I like that color. Love the pics of mini spinning from last week too - clever girl!

I used linen drape for a shell from IK from summer '02 and it is a dream. It's smooth and silky, and does exactly what the name says, it drapes! You'll love the finished top. Wish the yarn wasn't discontinued.

FYI: I wash it on delicate, line dry it and then throw it into the dryer on air fluff for 10-20 min. Works great.

I'd love to knit something with linen. I do have some Katia Papiro (cotton-linen) and some brandless 100% linen but I have not tried them yet. If it's as yummy as you describe it I should break into them soon.

I think your T looks awesome with the Clap. HAhahaha. Sesame street has the clap. Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!

Gorgeous color and interesting texture! I have linen drape and it reminds me of Phildar's phil lin; the end fabric is almost paper-like.

P.S. I want your tee-shirt. I have a strawberry shortcake tee I wear all the time!

Posted by: Becky at June 2, 2005 03:39 AM

I love the color you've chosen for moonbeam! Very pretty!!

Posted by: Maggie at June 2, 2005 08:03 AM

Well, I just have to agree with you -- your clapotis matches your favorite t-shirt beautifully. I spent many happy hours watching Sesame Street when my boys were young and was even known to watch it a few times when they were not around! I guess you're never too old...

Posted by: nona at June 2, 2005 11:47 AM

Very hip Froggy! Looks like Mini knows your colors :)

Someone mentioned machine drying... Try a swatch first to be sure, but my 100% linen clothes all love to be dried on the lowest setting. Softens them with no shrinkage. I've got a 100% linen (machine) knitted lace sweater that has machine dried beautifully for over 10 years! It's a very strong fiber.

I can see how you would like it. The texture looks fabulous!
