Froggy Knits

Lara just needed a day at the beach

After a day at the beach, Lara is behaving quite well. With only a small bit of finishing left and a bit of sun, I may be able to get some finished pics soon. And for anyone who knit her (or anything else for that matter), rubber bands can be a knits best friend. The combination of addis and soft slippery yarn could be disastrous (ask me how i know, lol) with 100's of stitches (front and back) on the needles, but those bands keep it all together.

Just recently I was able to check out one of my local bookstore knit groups and using bands to hold stitches on needles has stood out as one of the most useful tips ever! I also have another project that is on US 2 and 3's and have been getting these wonky rows and couldn't figure out why. Well the why was that my stitch holder (the smallest one) is a size US 4...who knew? Okay so you knew, but I didn't, hee, hee. Never occurred to me to check that. But smaller needles coupled with bands to the rescue from now on as stitch holders! I do love those double-ended stitch holders, but I'll save them for size 4 and up. A little rip and knit and its now "all good".

Now back to the beach...just look how great this Cotton-Ease is holding up. And no, I still can't believe its being discountinued. Mini and I were looking out to the bay when I noticed something on the back of her sweater. Ladybugs were everywhere (in the air and sand). It was a bit chilly for the beach, but mini grabbed her favorite sweater, Tingaling.

~i really must knit another one of these...just love those Miss Bea pattterns~

and i couldn't resist one more pic...(ok, so its really 2)

Mini looks so co-ordinated - the ruffle matches her T. I love this cardi she has on - I would never have thought of putting that blue/lilac with pink. And is that your knitting basket bag?

Posted by: erin at April 28, 2005 05:45 AM

Lovely cardi.

Posted by: Sophie at April 28, 2005 06:11 AM

Lara is almost done? Woohoo...It an easy knit, but it takes so long - especially the back. I love the colour you chose for Lara. One of my favs.

And your mini looks so cute in her so great hand knit sweater.

Looks like your day at the beach was super fun.

Posted by: Lisa at April 28, 2005 06:20 AM

You lucky knitter!! A day at the beach, Lara is behaving, Mini is adorable - I am very jealous! I had the day from hell at work so I'm glad someone had a good day to balance out the universe! Love Mini's Sweater - don't they make patterns like that for us big folks????

Posted by: chris at April 28, 2005 06:50 AM

Oh my but those are gorgeous photos of mini. That first one is absolutely gorgeous. I want to ask if you are printing them but I think I said that last time you posted such a gorgeous photo of mini!

Can't wait to see Lara.

Mini is so utterly adorable I am lost for words!
And I cant wait to see Lara done here soon :)

I just read about that tip too in S'n'B Nation! Cool huh?

That's an awesome picture of your daughter! It looks like it is straight out of a magazine!

Posted by: Adele at April 28, 2005 07:52 AM

I am always so impressed with the photos on your blog. They are just gorgeous and so professional looking. Your daughter always looks like a superstar in them.

I'm a bit jealous that you're at the beach already. We're expecting a light dusting of snow today!

Happy knitting on Lara!

can't wait to see lara all finished up! so jealous that you got to go to the beach (even if it was a little cool)!!

Posted by: kim at April 28, 2005 08:09 AM

How can you stand living with that much cuteness?

Posted by: claudia at April 28, 2005 08:19 AM

Glad that you, Mini, and Lara enjoyed your day at the beach. Mini is adorable (of course), and her sweater looks great.

Posted by: la chica alta at April 28, 2005 08:26 AM

Great pics...looks like the beach was a blast. Maybe Lara just needed a vacation!

That sweater is too cute...reminds me I need to work on stuff for Pixie!

Mini is so beautiful and photogenic! :)she's got good genes ;)

Posted by: heather at April 28, 2005 08:30 AM

Mini looks like she could be in a Rowan photo shoot with those beach pictures!

Posted by: Annette at April 28, 2005 08:32 AM

With a kid that cute, you have to take a ton of pictures.

I haven't checked out the Miss Bea patterns. I think I should.

Posted by: Iris at April 28, 2005 08:40 AM

So, which beach is this? The pics turned out SO great! Mini should be the model for the Miss Bea patterns :)

Hope to hear from you soon--email when you can about your S&W plans.

Posted by: Lolly at April 28, 2005 08:51 AM

Gorgeous pictures! Love, love the sweater - I'm going to have to stock up on those Miss Bea patterns - I've yet to see one I didn't like.

And there's nothing better than a slightly cold day at the beach - I much prefer it to a hot, sunny day. So romantic (in the victorian sense - oh I know you know what I mean! ;-) )

Posted by: Cara at April 28, 2005 08:59 AM

She is just so adorable and that is such a great picture! When will she be modeling in Miss Bea's books?

Posted by: Shelby at April 28, 2005 09:01 AM

Mini's sweater totally rocks! She's so lucky to have such a talented Mom and a Beach nearby :)

Posted by: Alana at April 28, 2005 09:03 AM

Knitting at the beach looks like fun. Mini's sweater is so cute!

Posted by: molly at April 28, 2005 09:27 AM

She's so cute, the sweater's so cute, I just had to say it even though everyone else has been here before me!

Posted by: anmiryam at April 28, 2005 09:33 AM

Another cute knit for Mini. I love that expression: so serious.

Posted by: Colleen at April 28, 2005 09:50 AM

Oh, how cute is Mini in her pink sweater. She needs to model for Rowen!

Posted by: Susan at April 28, 2005 10:37 AM

She looks like a professional model. Couldn't be cuter!

Posted by: stephanie at April 28, 2005 10:44 AM

Mini is just too cute!!! Love the sweater!!

Posted by: Lora at April 28, 2005 11:15 AM

I just grabbed some Cotton Ease from Hancock yesterday. I don't understand either ... I think perhaps this is one of their most popular yarns. Waiting to see Lara in action.

Posted by: Agnes at April 28, 2005 11:25 AM

where are you at the beach? looks like your mini had a good time. and yes, you should make her more sweaters. she looks great in them. ;)

Posted by: lynette at April 28, 2005 11:28 AM

That is a great looking sweater but the grrl is just too cute for words.

Posted by: margene at April 28, 2005 11:47 AM

As I told Heather, Mini and Pixie need to start a modeling co. They should be the exclusive models for any knitting patterns for kids.

Posted by: Lauren at April 28, 2005 11:53 AM

Great pictures of Mini - she is beautiful! The sweater is great, too ;)

Posted by: jackie at April 28, 2005 12:52 PM

There's no need to resist sharing such great photos!

Just got my first Miss Bea book - glad to know they're good patterns.

Awww! Mini is so cute! that cowboy hat on her is adorable, and I love the sweater, too :)

Posted by: Moni at April 28, 2005 04:08 PM

First she dressed up as Elvis, now she's rockin' the cowboy hat - I think this girl must have a country/rock n roll heart!
She also seems to get cuter by the day. Must be good genes :)

Posted by: Jenna at April 28, 2005 04:45 PM

Hmn...doesn't a day at the beach help EVERYTHING? I love that sweater on your sweet pea--adorable--the sweater and the model! ;)

Very cute pictures. I am jealous you made it to the beach. Hope you had a wonderful time!

Posted by: niki at April 28, 2005 09:40 PM

You are so brave to take your knitting to the beach! Whenever I go to the beach (very rarely, I'm in Dallas), sand gets in everything. And I have to agree with the forty people who have already posted and say Mini looks adorable!

Posted by: jen at April 29, 2005 12:23 AM

cute hat! cute kid! great sweaters!

Posted by: Jenny at April 29, 2005 12:51 AM

your girl is one of the most beautiful knitwear models I've ever seen.
lovely sweater, too!

Posted by: carole at April 29, 2005 12:58 AM

The ruffled cuffs are gorgeous. And Mini of course!

Posted by: tacha at April 29, 2005 02:43 AM

Your little girl is so cute, how do you even stand it?? Love the sweater too, of course. I've never used Cotton Ease, but feel like I need to go on a hunt for some ASAP.

Posted by: mia at April 29, 2005 07:19 AM

Aaaw, Mini's beautiful! Sweet sweater (that'd be my fave, too) and what a cool hat. She's a covergirl, for sure.
(gasping for breath) Cotton Ease discontinued. I think this calls for a write-in campaign! They can't do that!! That explains my finding it at a Dollar store, however (sob).

Posted by: Meg at April 29, 2005 10:41 AM

I'm so jealous that you're at the beach already...it's just starting to warm up around these parts. C'mon Spring!! Looks like fun was had - Mini is a supermodel - good lord but that Tingaling is cute!

Posted by: Vicki at April 29, 2005 12:10 PM

Posted by: mrspilkington at April 29, 2005 04:45 PM

Sounds like a fun knitting day at the beach! Exactly what I hope to be doing next week. hehe. Mini looks adorable, as always, and those ladybugs are so fun! It's good luck to have one land on you like that. ^_^

Posted by: Missy at April 29, 2005 06:38 PM

I hope Lara behaves, now that you're being nice to her. That's a beautiful sweater, no wonder Mini likes it so much, she looks very pretty in it.

Posted by: Pioggia at April 29, 2005 08:03 PM

Mini looks so cute on the picture, she is a really supermodel :-)!!! And lucky you are to be able to go to the beach, here at the coast is it still too cold!
