Reknit Complete

(...with pictures, hee, hee)

I had no intention of taking pics on this number since I think it could stand a wash and block first. Especially since it seems to be the exact size of some of my fav knits and tee's, though it seems that those knits and tee's that I based the perfect fit on don't seem to fit so perfectly at the moment (its amazing what several months of snow, rain and overall yucky weather weather can do to an exercise routine and directly affect ones waistline...definitely time to pull out out the sneeks and hit the pavement). Boy, I wish I cound do indoor workouts, but I even prefer yoga outside though my Levi's are telling me shape up or size up right now. And I have to admit that before I wet block I usually have to wear it first to give a test spin and then move on to washing it and then forget about taking pics of reknits by that time so I thought this one shouldn't be any different.

~with tee or without and with collar folded or up~

Project Specs:
Pattern: Rebecca 19 Mottled Sweater
Suggested Yarn: GGH Via Mala
Yarn Used: Noro Kocharan (two strands held together)
Needle Size: US 15 (one size smaller than suggested)
Gauge: almost 2.5 st/in (preblock)

Gotta love that all in one piece, in the round, no seaming pattern!

~i know, i know, i could stand to have that lighter stripe a few inches higher, lol~
~stay tuned for the magic of block 'n grow~
(though i'm not looking forward to the lightest part of the knit in the mid region either...let me stop before i rip this again...though if i move that to the bottom it could give the illusion of some shape there..hmmm...ok i'll stop...for now)

See, now that's something that I would not have even seen if I hadn't seen a picture of the sweater on (you thought I was done with that, right, lol). I don't have full length mirror and don't want one, but I think its quite interesting how things can look great looking down and just dead wrong head on. Wonder what other "color collisions" I have had in the past. Sure it doesn't help that is a wee bit short in the front (resulting in a slight tug of the front and coincidentally causing a "lowering of the light". I like the roll, but I should've thrown a purl row in there just where I want it to stop. Guess I just should have blocked it to spare you the dialogue about it. And just to compare the fit and look of the same sweater knit with one taking the finished size into consideration and the other...not, I took a pic of the brown mottled that I can put about three layers under and have (i'm not even kidding). I must admit that I really like the fit of the oversized brown, but feel so limited by the fact that if I wanted to wear it without a tee, I just can't (not that it would ever happen...i layer everything, but knowing I can't bothers me. I mean you could see through the armhole if I tried let it travel "without tee" and don't even want to think about the "bra antics" I'd have to go through to work it. But on the other hand the smaller version is perfect at the armhole, but a little snug at the bottom (so either I need to incorporate more stitches or stomach crunches in the next go round...yes there will be another). Blocking should help that I think. I just need a bit here and there and here again. That Kochoran seemed to grow with every wash the last go round. I kept thinking "are you done yet?" and it just kept right on going. If I hadn't ripped it, I would probably have a knit dress by now.

So overall, I'm pleased with it.

But I've got one more comment in regards to the circ knitting. I didn't really struggle seaming my first garment (the knitting was the struggle), but it did anx me enough to try the circular knitting (eliminating most of the seaming at least) which I incorporated into most knits for a while, but I have to say that if you ever rock from side to side in one of those circular numbers that are knit too big and fall below the hips (like my brown one) you may feel a bit...like a bell. But of course it could be because I occasionally shake from side to side and say "diiiiing doooonggg" when I wear it...why...I don't know. I have the feeling that this is one of the things one of my close friends would say "don't share that..." thought with those that don't know you "...the may get the wrong impression". And what impression is that exactly? I have to admit that even if it amuses me (and only me as it seems), I just can't stop until its not funny to me anymore, lol ;)

You are crazy in the nicest possible way! I just laughed out loud at that and I'm reading this from work (shhh!) so that wasn't the best plan in the world! Dong dong... :)

That turned out great! Now, I like yours better than the one in the magazine, and you're making me want one.
I know what you mean about needing to excersize. I'm dreading the thought of bathing suit season! Agh!

Posted by: heather at April 26, 2005 08:18 AM

I could do with some exercise too! Glad to hear I'm not alone in housing a few extra poundage (though from your picture you look fine to me! ;0) ... ).

The mottled sweaters look great. I love the yarn colours. I've never knit a sweater in the round before.

I love the new smaller version and I think it looks great. The exercise thing -- ugh! It's no fun, but I for one feel better for it, even if it doesn't make me look any different!

looking good! and the bloglines feed works!

Posted by: kris at April 26, 2005 08:58 AM

gah! you've done it again! Love it. very very cute!

Now there's a mental picture...Froggy as a bell.

;-)

Nice! I am so happy that it turned out well for you.

Posted by: lisa at April 26, 2005 09:06 AM

Really nice sweaters. I don't have nice arms, or shape for that matter, to wear sleeveless. It looks very very nice on you.

Posted by: Chery at April 26, 2005 09:08 AM

I hear you on the exercise - although I've got winter, and the fall before that, the summer before that, the spring before that and so on to work off.

The reknit looks great - I don't think the colors are bad at all. I actually like it with the collar up - very mysterious.

Posted by: Cara at April 26, 2005 09:13 AM

The reknit looks great. I love the colors. Perfect for a day when spring weather is not cooperating with the calendar.

Posted by: Colleen at April 26, 2005 09:15 AM

That pattern is rockin. Very cool. wow. I might have to purchase the back issue.

The sweaters look super cozy, nice job!

Posted by: Diana at April 26, 2005 09:29 AM

what a great, versatile piece... i can imagine it working with so many different outfits. no wonder you knit two!

Posted by: anna at April 26, 2005 09:30 AM

looks great on you!
Oh and to those friends... I say you tell them that there are more than enough people out there that wont blink twice at that (like me :)

Posted by: stinkerbell at April 26, 2005 10:12 AM

hehe. I have a skirt that I do that with! Just rock side to side and say "diiing dooong! ding dong!" And there's also a skirt that I can't help but twirl in. No worries. If you are a few chocolate chips short of a cookie, you're not the only one ;)

This sweater turned out so cute. I like its versatility... with tee, without, collar up, collar down, etc. And the colorway is scrumptious.

Posted by: Karma at April 26, 2005 10:39 AM

Nice, I like both! How did you work the arm shaping working in the round?

Posted by: Liz at April 26, 2005 11:07 AM

It looks great Froggy! (I really enjoy your blog, so I comment so seldom in the last time)

Posted by: marta at April 26, 2005 11:08 AM

Cuuute! I don't have a full-length mirror either. I think I might get one so I'm less surprised when pictures suck.

Posted by: Lauren at April 26, 2005 11:08 AM

I'm surprised to find that I am not the only one who doesn't have a full-length mirror!
I think wearing it without the T looks the best. Nice reknitting job.

Love, love, love it! What a great Spring re-knit.

Posted by: Nicole at April 26, 2005 12:45 PM

Lovely shape and lovely coulour scheme.

Posted by: Sophie at April 26, 2005 01:32 PM

LOL! you are too funny :). I *love* that pattern! and the stripe placement looks just fine to me..I wouldn't change a thing. That Kochoran is gorgeous!

Posted by: Moni at April 26, 2005 01:54 PM

love the shape and the color

Posted by: karen at April 26, 2005 02:30 PM

It was very worth doing over! Love the way it fits and the color is fab...good job!

Posted by: margene at April 26, 2005 02:51 PM

Your reknit looks great. I'm loving the colors.

Posted by: Liz at April 26, 2005 02:58 PM

It looks great!! I'm glad you posted the pics - I was wondering how it looked on. Winter can really suck - I've got a couple of summer projects that I'm not even going to start until I get a month or so of jogging under my belt.

Posted by: Vicki at April 26, 2005 03:35 PM

it looks fab!

Posted by: erika at April 26, 2005 04:53 PM

oh come on. its great.

Posted by: kathreen at April 26, 2005 07:52 PM

It looks great on - love the colours! It goes so well with jeans and your blue T.

Posted by: erin at April 26, 2005 09:13 PM

Looks great froggy! I love the colours

Posted by: Dani at April 26, 2005 09:41 PM

Your post is so funny LOL! Both looks very lovely on you. Just a thought. You could wear a tube under the brown one on days you don't feel like a t-shirt under..:)

Posted by: Laura Y at April 26, 2005 09:52 PM

Very sassy, lady!

Posted by: Christie at April 27, 2005 04:01 AM

I think the reknit is great and fits you WELL. You can block it a bit longer I'm sure. Great pattern!

Posted by: Jenny at April 27, 2005 04:21 AM

It looks great, Froggy! I know what you mean about the perils of winter inactivity... I assume now that my pants are not in fact shrinking, as I thought for a while, but it might instead be me that is getting larger! haha. Oh well, that's what Spring is for. Time to get outside and enjoy the nicer weather!

Posted by: Missy at April 27, 2005 09:04 AM

Love the final product, especially the picture without the shirt underneath where you really get to see the pattern and the fit! I can't believe how fast you just whipped the last bit of that up! Congrats!

Posted by: Dani at April 27, 2005 10:45 AM

I understand you have made the Rebecca Cardy! I would love to see a picture, but I can't seem to locate your finished gallery! Please indulge me!

Posted by: beth at April 27, 2005 12:58 PM

So cute and stylish! You carry this off so well. Truly, you are in a class by yourself.

I don't have a full length mirror, either. I left it behind when I came here and never bought a new one. I found that I liked not having one! My husband and my son are now my mirrors. ["So...how does this look?"] Tee hee!

Posted by: Becky at April 27, 2005 04:28 PM

I love your rambles... though I think you're too harsh on yourself. Those are two pretty garments, each with its own quirks but nevertheless unique and wearable.

Posted by: Pioggia at April 27, 2005 07:31 PM

The re-knits look fabulous. Go you! I love the pattern!

Posted by: eyeleen at April 27, 2005 08:50 PM

I like it! I don't see anything wrong with the stripe placements either.... and I thought *I* was critical! ;)

Posted by: Karen at April 28, 2005 01:22 AM

Gorgeous! Looks fab on you! I think you look great -- I can't see any reason for feeling self-conscious. Don't you think a snug black tank would do the trick if you wanted to wear brown nearly-alone? You make me want to run out & find Rebecca 19! I love your sense of style.
