Froggy Knits

What I'm knittin' on today...

~why its the beginning of Rowan 27 strike
using rowan wool cotton in spark

After talking up my single button serendipitous cardigan, I decided to slip it on and knit on Rowan Strike. And for anyone interested, this color is still up for grabs. More details can be found below and here.

I'm the chilly type that wears sweaters all year round especially in places that crank the air though I am a no-air fan for the most part (except in extreme conditions, of course). Hardly ever goes on unless others just can't stand it. So if you are ever in my car, feel free to ask me to turn on the air, cause it never crosses my mind unless it is extremely hot to me. But by that time you would have probably already passed out (hee, hee...i guess that is not really funny, huh).

But back to Strike, I decided to leave off the drawstring tie at the bottom and am beginning to think about whether I actually need a hood on a summer knit, but then that would leave me with a plan tank that I don't want to knit since the hood and drawstring are the elements that drew me to the pattern in the first place...go figure. So I have decided to keep the hood especially since I love that bit of seed stitch or whatever that is at the neckline (and no i haven't read that far on the pattern to actually know yet). But since I'm a gal that likes to layer, it'll be over a long sleeved tee in the fall/winter anyway, so that hood may be a bit handy. What a minute, I actually axed the tie thinking that I could wear it at the office more under a jacket or not, but now I realize that a hood is not quite office attire either. So I guess that leaves casual Friday, which means I could have left the drawstring, ugh.

Must start thinking before knitting in addition to during knitting. And if I weren't knitting on this as a diversion from some "knits gone mad" (more on that later), I'd rip it out this very minute, but I'm not (not now anyway, lol).

I really like strike! Is it too late to keep the cord? I think it looks great, and the hood. Definitely one you can layer nicely too. I wonder if I should try this with my Jo Sharp instead of a vest. Oh dear... now I have to go and do gauge research and think hard and I was just about to cast on....

I love strike and I'd also leave off the cord if I make it, I can't wait to see yours all finished.. What a lovely colour as well!

Goin' for Rowan. ;)
Love the vibrant color! That should look really good on you.

I just lost two stitches on my Cinnamon cardi, so I gotta wait until my SnB pals can help me out on Tuesday. *sigh*

Happy knitting!

I think you should go with the whole thing. The tie looks nice! but really it is up to you,I shouldn't be telling you ;0)

That tank/hoodie is so cute! I've never seen that pattern before. It's gonna look great in that color you picked! I like the hood and the drawstring, but I understand the why-do-I-need-that aspect of both. As long as you like it in the end!

P.S. I put your button on my blog. Hope you don't mind! :)

Love the color, Froggy! And I vote no on the drawstring (it will go out of fashion soon) and yes on the hood (timeless). Not that you asked for votes. But I'm opinionated, I guess. :)

Guess what? Your feed is not working in my Bloglines for some reason or another, and I am so glad that I came over here to check you out--I realized that I have missed 2 weeks of entries! I hate being so far behind!

Your Strike is going to be fab--can't wait to see it... off to catch up on all of the entries.

Hope all is well, Froggy dear :)

Strike is gonna be beautiful!! I am just like you concerning the air ;-)

I had the same problem as Lauren with bloglines- I'm glad I came over directly too! Anyhoo, I'm with you: pro-hood, anti-drawstring. I think both choices will be better for layering. But then I wonder if they added the drawstring because their ribbing was too shallow and it stretched out...just a thought. Love the color you're using!

Posted by: Dana at April 11, 2005 10:01 AM

Yeah, the drawstring is sorta cheesy, but I can see why you want to keep the hood. I love the color you are using!

Glad for that little tip about the A/C, coz I'm a HUGE fan (no pun intended) of the A/C. I will remember it if I'm ever in the car with you. ;-)

I think it's good you're keeping the hood, that pattern looks great and even if a hood is not up much it's really a good decoration feture I think.
:-)

And I'm like you, love to start and knit on - but stop and think before or during? Naaa... that's boring! ;-)

That's funny...I just started a very similar sleeveless hoodie from Katia. Is this the beginning of a summer trend?

Posted by: stephanie at April 11, 2005 10:54 AM

I just LOVE the color of that Rowan wool cotton you're using.

Woo hoo! Great choice in project, Frogster. And HEY! You'd do just fine living over here. No air, bay-bee! Summertime in France can be so refreshing...good thing I'm used to warmer climes or I'd be the one passing out. Hee!

Posted by: Becky at April 11, 2005 11:34 AM

Oooh! Wool Cotton - one of my favorite yarns! Hope you can work it all out so you don't have to rip.

Knits gone mad? I'm intrigued.

Posted by: claudia at April 11, 2005 11:53 AM

Love the Strike pattern and LOVE the color you're knitting it in - orange is one of my favorites.

Love Strike! I get cold all year 'round too. My husband gets so mad because I leave the warm blankies on the bed all year.
I'm interested to read about the "knits gone mad" also.

Ha - that's so funny. It's just the kind of running commentary I have in my head when knitting along. I love Rowan Wool Cotton - such great stitch definition - looks great. Go the hood!

Posted by: sally at April 11, 2005 02:53 PM

ooo, I like strike too. Perhaps you could turn the hood into a collar, and use a ribbon for the tie instead, to dress it up a bit? either way, it will look fantastic in that color!!

Posted by: gaile at April 11, 2005 05:09 PM

Strike is on my want-to-knit list too! And I also don't think I'll need a hood but it just looks so nice with the hood draped at the back, so I have the same dilemma. :)

Posted by: erin at April 11, 2005 08:35 PM

I like the hood AND the cord. Great color, too!

Posted by: Niki at April 11, 2005 09:48 PM

Strike seems to be aptly named, you're already up to strike 2 with the dumping of the drawstring and the perilous hood. I'm glad you're keeping the hood, it'll be quite cute with a tshirt under it and you never know when a hood comes in handy.

Posted by: Silvia at April 11, 2005 11:26 PM

That top is really nice...love the colour too =)

Posted by: oslofia at April 12, 2005 04:27 AM

I think the thing with hoods is, they look cool even when they are down, because of the way they make the neckline look....that's why I love them even though I barely ever use them!

I must confess I am a bit of a heat lover too- always wearing more clothes (lots of cardigans!)than anyone else in the office. I'm also the one who sits next to the airconditioning controls; and who prefers fresh air from the window to the airconditioning... much to my co-workers annoyance!

Posted by: Clementine at April 12, 2005 08:31 AM

love the color...and layering is a must for the summer...I am always in a Lab, so it's cold! Gotta have the handknits handy!

I really like this one...especially the color!

without sleeves as I am finding out...knits are super quick!

Posted by: heather at April 12, 2005 08:53 AM

ooh, I love that pattern!

Posted by: Moni at April 12, 2005 01:09 PM

I like the tie a lot. I say, keep it. The hood is mainly ornamental, so you can knit it but not use it and it would still look great.

Posted by: Pioggia at April 12, 2005 09:00 PM

I am so like you. It's april and I am wearing my fingerless gloves as well as jammies and a sweatshirt because I am SO FREAKING COLD! ;-)
