April 01, 2005Late fixI wanted to join in on Alison's February Fixathon, but I knew there would be no chance of me squeezing that into my February line-up. So as usual, I'm late to the party. But better later than...you know. So I started with one of my first sweaters which I obviously knit before I became mad about loose ends. It's amazing how I won't wear any knit now unless all (ok, at least most...i have been known to finish weaving ends during lunch at work a time or two during that first day wear) of the ends are woven in. But now the ends are no longer loose. I am aware of what a little task this actually was. It only took minutes. But at the moment those ends started to bother me, that sweater was thrown in the "must do something with that" basket and it's been there for months. Why must I make a production out of such little things in order to do them at times? Then we have the worn out and washed a million plus times Phildar Kate. That neckline needs some serious help (and yeah, so much for i'll do that last end later...try much later, lol). If that neckline isn't proof that I need to get with short rows fast then I don't know what is. Its not like the neckline was all that great to begin with (those ladders are just a pain when it comes to picking up stitches). But after the umpteenth wash those holes have just gotten bigger. So I tried to come up with a fix using a crochet hook. I'm temporarily happy with the current fix. At least enough to give it an immediate wear though I think I may need to practice a bit more with crochet hook as I'm thinking a smaller hook may have worked out better closing up those gaps a bit better as they are still quite visible. It took forever to get around to "take 1" so I don't know how likely it is "take 2" will ever happen. Maybe a few million washes from now. Hmm, maybe I should just unbind and rip the collar out and try it with shortrow shaping...'cause its still looks a bit wacky, but I did enjoy wearing it again. Kate does deserve a proper fix. Then we have mini's button headwarmer. Looks like this now. I really need to secure buttons better. Mini just loves to twist and spin them. They're all back on now, but for how long? And in "why didn't I fix that lace before I seamed it" news, we have Audrey's collar that was just bugging me so I decided to rip it off and block it. Now why I didn't block it first?

Lots of fixins! They all look great. Short rows are currently the source of my private hell - and already need fixin. Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend! Posted by: Cara at April 1, 2005 03:37 PMGreat job on them fixins! I hate doing it so kudos to you for getting them done. Posted by: monica at April 1, 2005 03:49 PMYou're asking questions we all ask ourselves. Great job of 'gettin' it done'. Posted by: margene at April 1, 2005 03:54 PMYou've been productive! It's nice to get all of those little things done. Looking forward to seeing a finished Audrey :). I'm still trying to decide if I want to finish mine or just frog it. Posted by: Moni at April 1, 2005 03:58 PMOMG, I didn't even think about blocking the lace on my Audrey! I just stitched it up and wore it... looking at your lace blocking photo, I really should have blocked mine too. Your Audrey is going to look fantastic! Posted by: Felicia from sweetgeorgia at April 1, 2005 04:48 PMOK, I'm a sloppy knitter. I'm always in denial when I wear my disasters. I need to learn from you, and go back and correct previous mistakes. Posted by: Pioggia at April 1, 2005 05:30 PMWhat a clever idea that crocheting is. Posted by: claudia at April 1, 2005 05:38 PMOooh, you have to model that black turtleneck sleeveless thing for us, or at least point us in the direction of a photo with someone else wearing it. Posted by: Colleen at April 1, 2005 08:57 PMThat lace is just beautiful!! Your sweater will be a HIT this summer =) Posted by: oslofia at April 1, 2005 09:51 PMVery clever idea to use a crochet stitch to fill in those gaps, I would never have thought of it. Posted by: Sophie at April 2, 2005 04:21 AMGreat idea to block the Audrey lace! I should do the same with mine.... Posted by: Marta at April 2, 2005 05:06 AMI love that Kate sweater - I can't believe it unravelled like that?! Posted by: Wendy at April 3, 2005 01:27 PMyou crack me up .. every time i read your blog I feel excited and busy ...I love the serious-ness that you bring to the table ..I admire your (and am gaining my own ) commitment to this craft!!! Audrey's lace looks gorgeous all blocked out! Good thinking! Posted by: caro at April 3, 2005 07:44 PMYou should be very proud of yourself! Especially Audrey's collar - that was extremely responsible. The bears are too cute. Nice that Mini takes part now. Posted by: Nancy at April 9, 2005 09:06 PM |
