January 07, 2005Stepping in to socks...woohoo, its kitchener baby! and the beginning of second sock Kitchener went amazingly well thanks to this link (scroll down to kitchener) at KnittingHelp.com. This site is a terrific resource. Big thanks to Becky for posting the link. It was right on time for my socks. I watched the video and then by the time I replayed it my sock was done. I can't wait to try some of the other techniques with other knits. I'm really surprised how far the first ball of yarn went on the second sock(proof of second sock as 1st is behind it, hee hee). Luckily I found another ball in my stash. Here's a peek at my small sock stash that started last year when I first started thinking about sock knitting... I started using the Opal for a pair of wristers, but just wasn't ready for those tiny needles. Now, do I make the wristers or will they become a new pair o' socks? Your grafting is beautiful! And look at that sock stash. My personal feeling is you can never ever have too much sock yarn. Well, or really any yarn. Or needles. Or books. But especially sock yarn! Posted by: Jenny at January 7, 2005 04:18 AMYou have reached the next level, grasshopper. ! :0) Posted by: Emma at January 7, 2005 05:22 AMYou are getting on with your socks. This will be my year to actually wear my first proper pair and not just collect sock wool! Posted by: Tracy at January 7, 2005 05:38 AMYour sock looks great! You're making me want to make some. You're such an enabler! Have fun! Posted by: Adele at January 7, 2005 06:08 AMI see one sock of many, they are terribly addictive. Great looking sock! Posted by: Chery at January 7, 2005 06:18 AMIts great to hear that you're willing to admit stashing sock yarn before knitting socks at all. Personally, I find that stash creates incentive. Posted by: Cassie at January 7, 2005 07:26 AMYay sock! I love Kitchener...it is truely amazing, don't you think? Posted by: Jackie at January 7, 2005 07:47 AMKitchener was one of those things that took my brain forEVER to wrap around initially, but then once I got the flow, wasn't it FUN!? And isn't the result amazing!? Posted by: Norma at January 7, 2005 08:03 AMI am so proud of your sock making. I've never got the hang of it although with all this sock knitting over here and swapping over at alisons I'm tempted to make 2005 the year of the sock. although I think I said that last year, and the year before that! Posted by: kerrie at January 7, 2005 08:13 AMyou've caught the bug! no second sock syndrome for our Froggy Dear! Posted by: heather at January 7, 2005 08:44 AMI think we all have socks on the brain these days - yours look fabulous! I can't wait to find out who my sockapaloozee is so that I can start a pair, too. Posted by: Julia at January 7, 2005 08:45 AMI'm making a pair of socks out of some Opal yarn right now myself. I love the feel of it. Your socks look great! I had used the link at www.knittingatknoon.com to learn kitchener myself. Posted by: Lisa P at January 7, 2005 08:51 AMThanks for the kitchner links! Posted by: Colleen at January 7, 2005 09:59 AMGotta agree with Cassie: I have sock yarn (that she helped me pick out, I might add) in my stash. I take it out, finger is lovingly, longingly. Pop over here and see how well you're doing and say, Yes! I can make socks! Soon. I hope. On Kitchener: I read about in three different books and had no freakin' clue. Watched a video (a different one though) and there it was! Beautiful! Don't you love it when things click? Posted by: Cara at January 7, 2005 10:34 AMI did my first kitchner on my socks just the other night. Isn't it great when things work out! Posted by: General Ginger at January 7, 2005 11:20 AMI'd love to get good at Kitchener...I keep trying but usually default to the star toe. It's a sock knittin' year from the looks of it. Posted by: margene at January 7, 2005 11:36 AMKnittingHelp.com is definitely an amazing site. I work as a knitter at A.C. Moore and I always send the newbies to that site for the times when I'm not there to help them. Posted by: Nik at January 7, 2005 11:42 AMLooking good! On my first ever sock the kitchener didn't go so well. The first time it was way too tight and looked weird. Now it's a little looser, but still looks weird. Nice mini stash you've got going there! I have just about as much and I'm still on my first pair. I have lots of orders though :) Posted by: Vicki at January 7, 2005 12:25 PMWhat a fab work on the kitchener! And it seems you're not suffering from second sock syndrom ;) Love your sock yarn stash too! Posted by: Sandra at January 7, 2005 03:54 PMDang, that toe looks gorgeous! Aren't socks so fun?? I'm actually using some of my recently acquired sock yarn for a pair of opera gloves...sock yarn is so useful! Yay!! Posted by: Carrie at January 7, 2005 04:06 PMPretty toes! Those are great socks-to-be colors. Seeing yours look so good motivates me to pick up my half finished socks and get knitting. Finally, thanks for the how-to link. Posted by: Nancy at January 7, 2005 04:31 PMgorgeous work! man, i haven't made a pair of socks since i first learned how, but you knitblogging sockers make it sound like so much fun. i may have to succumb to sock fevah! Posted by: mrspilkington at January 7, 2005 05:46 PMFast as usual, Froggy. I love that wristers pattern, but I'm not sure I would wear them. As long as you choose something you will actually wear, go for it! Posted by: Pioggia at January 7, 2005 05:55 PMI genuflect at your altar of kitchener. I'm not worry. Posted by: Laurie at January 7, 2005 07:39 PMHi ! You are realy a clever knitter. Your kitchener looks great. Althought I've knitted 5 pairs of socks, I used 3 needle bind off for the toe only. I think I really need to learn kitchener ASAP. Happy knitting ! Eva Posted by: Eva Shiu at January 8, 2005 12:33 AMHi Froggy :) Lovely Kitchener stitch--I know the 2nd will be great too! ... and look at all that lovely yarn that you can play with next! Have a lovely weekend!!! :) Posted by: Lolly at January 8, 2005 11:02 AMYou inspired me, dear Froggy! I CO for my first sock last night! Your finished sock is beautiful, of course. Can't wait to see Froggy Action Feet FO pics. :) That's some da*n fine kitchener-ing, btw. Posted by: Elisa at January 8, 2005 02:58 PMCongratulations on developing a lifelong sock passion! Posted by: Brynne at January 8, 2005 03:41 PMbeautiful! i'd vote for wristers now that you've almost finished the pair of socks. btw, saw you were nominated for a bob award--congrats! Posted by: amanda at January 8, 2005 04:23 PMHi Froggy...nice socks. I really need to make some for my 'baby' =) I had a look at the knitting.help link you wrote about, and I added it on the HK knitalong blog. I've just finished off the first arm, and I've sewn it on the sweater. I also started on the second arm...I soooo want to have it done by tomorrow night, but we'll see =) Posted by: Oslofia at January 8, 2005 05:16 PM |
