real estate?
vacancy...small starter home, big fireplace, nice wooden pointy fence, soft tweedy walls
no yard....but a very tightly knit neighborhood and wonderful sunny exposures. call 555.SOCK
Sock attempt two is coming right along. Its going much better on the sock yarn. I'm using the same Basic Sock pattern as before, but chose to knit the entire cuff in 2x2 ribbing. On the first sock I knit the first few rows on a straight needle, but this time just cast on with the straight on one size up and joined the yarn using the dpns. I read that you can knit the first stitch with the working yarn and tail to prevent the little gap so I really want to try that next time. I'm diggin this yarn, but am not sure if I picked up a second ball. Hope I can find one if I didn't. Looks like I'll be doing a sock yarn run. How 'bout that? Never thought I would enjoy knitting with size 1's so much and be looking forward to a sock yarn run. I now see what all the hoopla is about. And that's from someone who doesn't even have a sock yet, lol. How happy will I be when I get to that point? Did I just jinx myself? Doh!

your sock looks great,I havent seen that sock wool before.I love doing the kitchener stitch,it's really easy.you will do it in a breaze.
You are too cute. Love the sock house. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that second ball of yarn.
Yay for you for your first pair of socks. I just finihsed my first pair yesterday - I'm hooked...sonds like you are, too. I love the yarn you are using!
Good going! Your first sock is wonderful! I have been addicted to socks for a couple of years now. LOVE knitting them. I carry a working sock with me in my purse all the time. They are great for knitting while traveling. Yes! You can get away with knitting them in airports and on planes. It's a great way to hook new knitters too. Keep going! Seems to me that Kroy is one of the yarns that comes in a ball big enough for two socks. How many yards or meters in the skein?
Us sock knitters should have warned you how addictive making socks are. But don't worry - the sickness will wear off, and you will knit other things soon, I'm sure.
Lisa
Oooo, that sock is bee-yoo-tiful! Love the color, and I'm glad you're enjoying it -- sock knitting IS truly addictive (says the girl who owns enough sock yarn for 30+ pair). As for kitchener, check out the Knitty article about it (I think it's in the fall issue, in Techniques with Teresa) -- it's a great guide.
looking good! looking very good!
Yippee for socks! Hope that second ball turns up! Happy sock knitting, Froggy!
Well, I've only ever knit one pair of socks (but there will be more! Muwhahahaha!) and well, I've only been knitting about six months now, but yes, I did join the working yarn and the tail and I didn't get a gap with either sock. Hope that helps! :)
nice going on the socks. i can't keep up with you, but you're inspiring me to keep on.
Look at you go with the socks! Great color!
They are addicting. I'm a failure at kitchener. Good luck.
I love that sock yarn, it looks absolutely awesome. Congratulations on using size 1's. I've never brought myself to knit so fine... maybe one day. Good luck on kitchners! I promise it's easy!
lovely sock...good luck finding more yarn! Love the views in this starter home ;)
Wow, your sock looks great! I just caught the sock addiction myself and spread it around to my knitting buddies here...it's hard to resist the size 1s!!
And that yarn ... YUM.
Thanks for the link to the pattern. My one knitting resolution (I usually don't make resolutions) is to learn socks in 2005. You've just put me one step closer, because, right now I'm too damned lazy to search for myself.
they look fabulous! great job on the sock! i bet your kitchner stitch will be fab also!
your sock seems to be a cosy place!!
You can also ad an extra stitch when you cast on, and then knit the first and the last stich together on the first round, to prevent the little gap.*g*
Welcome to the sock knitting addiction. I have it too - in fact I am guilty of buying two pairs of #1s last week to start a new pair of socks since all of my other needles are occupied. (I like knitting both socks at once so I end up with a completed pair at the end.)
And we won't talk about the three other Socks In Progress that I have going.
Welcome. And I love the color of that yarn!
Pretty - like 'em yarn :-)! I was very confused by kitchener directions at first - then I realized (or read somewhere) that "as if to knit" meant inserting the needle front to back, and "as if to purl" meant yarn needle back to front. Slap my head moment, I guess.
Knitting socks really is a pleasure. I love the yarn you are using. Happy New Year and all the best to you and your family, Froggy !
555 SOCK...hee hee! I hereby nominate this entry in Froggy's Hall of Entries That Really Make Rabbit Laugh Fame. And dang! That was one long phrase, wasn't it?
And the sock is looking fabulous, Miss F!
froggy great job! i can only remember my elation when i finished my first sock! you will definately love them. sorry i couldnt help you earlier when you were asking for a good beginner pattern. the only one i know of is in that 2005 calendar of knitting, called lolas socks. there is a small mistake in the pattern though, so if you decide to do it, you can ask me, or ask around about it.
Hey, I admire you, being a future sock-people myself (Starting next.. week!).
My biggest fear : second sock syndrom (as I already suffer from second slipper syndrom ;-)
Alice
Very nice, Froggy!
I am 1/2 way through my first 2 socks (I'm knitting them at the same time to avoid 2nd sock syndrome), and I HIGHLY recommend Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' book "Simple Socks: Plain and Fancy". You can make a sock in any size, for any shape feet, with 2 simple foot measurements and your gauge. Works for me!

The socks are looking great, Froggy! I love the yarn. I got a few balls of self-striping sock yarn in my stocking, so I may be trying out the whole sock-knitting experience too. Looks like you're having a lot of fun with it. ^_^
You will read and hear people say that to do the Kitchener stitch well you need to pay attention. They are NOT lying. Kitchener is easy as pie to do once you've figured it out, but I have found that it does require a focus that I don't usually have to maintain.
So, although I was going to suggest tasty cocktail beverages as a way to deal with your first sock stress, I'm going to have to recommend the beverages for after, not before. ;)
Happy New Year, dear Froggy!
I love Patons Kroy! It comes in such happy colorways. And your sock looks great :)
