Clapotis

stitch closeup
Project Specs:

Yarn Suggested: Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb
Yarn Used: Artyarns Supermerino in color 106
Needle Size: US 5 addis
Gauge: 19 sts/4" St. st

I have really enjoyed watching my clapotis (as well as all of the others) progress and am still amazed at all of the different ways it can be worn. I have to admit that though I immediately fell in love with it the moment I saw in on Knitty, I was concerned that I would be fiddling with it constantly trying to find just the right position for it to be placed. I have long admired capes, shawls and other similar stylish items as they seem to be so effortlessly cast over shoulders and when I envisioned myself in a similar item I saw myself tripping over it and doing a header toward the concrete or just getting caught up in a slammed car door with the item of affection half on one side and half on the other flapping in the wind, rain or snow. Why so dramatic you ask? Well this has happened with many a mile long scarf that I have knitted. (i'm not the most graceful being, not that anyone thought i could be). Well, I must have matured in ability to make to sure that coat, scarf and other are within the interior of the car and the novel idea of placing one foot in front of the other solidly on the ground 'cause I have had no trouble with my clapotis. Or maybe its just the fact that I value it highly above all other objects felted by nature, mere neglect and act of hanging out my car door being agitated by the wind accompanied by a slaps with the ground (i kid you not I have a scarf that is felted at one end and i am tempted to felt the other end to balance it out as it doesn't look half bad, lol). I have barely taken it off my clapotis since it's completion and am guilty of building my wardrobe around my ability to wear it (daily). This clapotis is just magical. No matter where it falls its just right. From sometimes wrapping my head and neck completely to just holding it in the front, I am just lovin' it. The yarn is so soft and I really am taken by the way the colorway worked itself out. I am happy with the length, too. I should have known when the supposedly wrong side looks a brilliant as the right that this was going to be a winner. This has sparked what I know will be the beginning of a new realm of knits entering my wardrobe and I am quite excited. So much in fact that I feel there is only one thing to do when one finishes a clapotis and that is start another.
Update: For those looking for where to get the Artyarns Supermerino in color 106 or any of the other gorgeous colors they have, I purchased it from Knit Happens.

Your clapotis is beautiful !! i want one too !!
WOW, I love your Clapotis!! And you chose wonderful colours.
You are so funny :-)) I have anyway the same problems with my shawls and scarves....have always to pay attention I don't get caught in some doors...
Gorgeous! Both you and Clapotis... Now I want to make one once the Christmas madness is over!
Just beautiful! I really love the colors. Is the new one Noro??
It's gorgeous, just gorgeous!
That is just utterly gorgeous!!!!
Very pretty Froggy! What is the new one being made from?
I was trying to resist, but I think it's now futile. Your Clapotis is really, really gorgeous. (And you where it beautifully!)
Gorgeous! It looks great on you. Terrific color too! Congrats on another aweseome project.
Nice clapotis! After the holidays I am going to go right out and get some yarn for one too. Every time you make something I just want to go out and make it too. Stop all the great knitting--I can't keep up!! (...what's next?)
that is gorgeous! hmm... i may have to have one!
question: will we ever see your face?
I love the color that you chose, it is gorgeous. I am not an experienced knitter, do you think this would be hard for me to make?
Once again, you dazzled us with a great project. I happen to have yarn in my stash (yes, i do) to make one or two. So, i'll be joining you clapotis owners soon.
looking luscious and lovely. i am not a scarf or shawl person; but, ever since i saw it on knitty, i've been a clapotis person. seeing yours has moved it up on the to knit list for sure.
Ooh, I love that color.
And now you know the secret of Clapotis: you can't take it off once you complete it. And I thought about a second one, but I've got to finish the projects I kicked to the curb to make the first one.
Froggy, another triumph! Your Clapotis is beautiful, and looks so great on you. I want to make one!
Wowee...love it! Another amzing finished project...you are inspiring me to knit up the yarn I have in my stash for a clapotis sooner rather than later like planned!
It looks absolutely fantastic on you. I want one now!
Gorgeous! Beautiful color and I really enjoyed all your pics of the different ways you can wrap up! I'm over the top, now, and will just have to add that to my serious, "I'm really gonna," to-do list.
Your Clapotis came out just beautiful!! One day, I will make one. Soon.
Your Clapotis turned out just beautiful! It's a beautiful pattern, isn't it? I haven't taken mine off, either :) .
Hey, lady! Nice Clapotis!
It's lovely. Love that colorway.
Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for the link to artyarns, too. I wasn't familiar, and their yarn looks fabulous!
Beautiful as usual, Froggy!
Your fears about scarf length aren't unfounded! Isadora Duncan DIED by her scarf! I'm working on a Clap in Noro Cash Iroha and I'm so in love with the pattern. I'm already planning my next dozen.
Fab !
You wear it so stylishly.I'm going to start my Clapotis on xmas day as a treat ! Hope it turns out as gorgeous as yours.
I love seeing what you're knitting. :0)
Wow! Went just through all your blog entries: such beautiful projects you have here! Gonna visit often now that I found your blog. :)
Oh man--I knew I wanted one but your Clapotis makes me NEED one. Thanks! (I think...)
I concur! It's beautiful and very siren-like in its call for me to do one as well. ;-)
Your Clapotis is divine. And I know how you feel. Another! And another! I have this urge to knit every yarn in my possession into a Clapotis. It's a good thing I have a lot of sisters.
Beautiful! The color really makes it and I can't wait to knit another in a multi-colored yarn. Very, very elegant and fab!
Absolutely gorgeous - tres elegante!! I love your colors. You're inspiring me to try it, too.
Hi Froggy,
your Clapotis is so beautiful!!!!!! I certainly still would like to knit one for me, too, however just fight with the translation!

Cleo
Hi ! The scarf is very beautiful. The colour is gorgerous ! Well done.
BTW, you are really a fast knitter. Everytime I see you blog, you have FOs come out.
Wow... that's one funky green Clapotis! It's absolutely fabulous, darling :-) It looks so interesting with this colourway. Terrific job on this one!
Oh Froggie, that is one beautiful Clapotis! What a gorgeous colorway you chose--it's like spring.
Gorgeous.
Where did you score the yarn ( I need some!), and what are you using for the second one? I've considered getting rid of some of that damned Kureyon by making Clapotis, but I want mine to be soft. Merino fits the bill!
xox
Love it! I've admired this pattern since it came out too. And I love the color you chose. Very nice!
Drool, drool, drool! I love your Clapotis - how awesome! Congratulations on finishing a wonderful Holiday gift for yourself!

Great Clap, froggy! The green is lovely.
it is gorgeous and you are graciously graceful my dear!

Oh, WOW. Hands down among the prettiest colorways I've seen. Very Froggy, very you. Bravisima!
Your "Clap" is gorgeous! I can't wait to start mine. Maybe over my holiday break.
I love your Clapotis. I just finished mine with Artyarns Supermerino color #105 (I'm in loooove with Artyarns Supermerino). Despite how much I love it, it's going to be a Christmas gift for the aunt who taught me to knit. I think I might go to the yarn store after Christmas and buy yarn to make one for myself!
You are a popular Froggy! :) This Clapotis is so lovely! I hope you wore it today and wrapped it up really tight--it is so cold out there! brrr!
I would like to make this... I have to find the perfect yarn... I really like the one you chose!
Stunning! I adore mine and feel the need to make another so I can truly wear it every day!

I love your Clapotis!!! It's a beautiful color and looks great wrapped around you. I'm a knitting blogless newbie and I truly enjoy reading your site and looking at the beautiful projects you complete. You definitely are inspiring! Have a Happy Holiday!
Please allow me to add to the chorus of praise and adulation for your Clapotis! I've got yarn ordered for two different versions of this, and I can't wait to get started!
Wow, looks gorgeous. Looks like some Kureyon #40 for Clapotis #2? I know you love my yarn guesses;) I bet all that Artyarns around your neck is amaaaazing. Really beautiful.
Beautiful colours you picked ! And you model Clapotis very elegantly, it is perfect.
Abolutely fabulous. Gorgeous color.
Your Clapotis is just amazing, Froggy. I especially like how you're wearing it in the photo on the right. Tres chic!
It is absolutely beautiful. I am thinking that this is a grandmother birthday present.

Can I have it? tee hee!

Wow, I just love it, Froggy! I surely will have to make myself one someday. The colours hat you used are simply gorgeous!
That is a gorgeous Clapotis!! The colors suit you perfectly. And you're so right--there's no wrong way to wear it; it looks great whatever you do. Best babushka ever.
It looks so pretty!! I think yours has convinced me to make one eventually.
froggy, that looks just great on you! i love your color selection! it seems everything you make is just magical! i really wanted to try making a clapotis, but i am still stuck in old projects and didnt want to overwhelm myself! im glad you love it!
I have 400 yards of a sport yarn. Do you think that would be enough to make it?
Oh, wow! I'm just starting Clapotis with ArtYarns Supermerino too! I'm using color 105, which is a pink/green varigated. Yours look fabulous--I can't wait! I noticed you used size 5 needles--are you a really loose knitter? I am, but I was going to start with 7's. Maybe I should reconsider.
Whatever you did, it sure worked! It's just gorgeous. Well done.
Wonderful Clapotis! I started mine today in Schaefer Yarns Helene, Mary Pickford Colorway! Wish me luck! I hope to be as glamorous as you!
I love your Clapotis! You have inspired me to make one too. I have been thinking about it since the new knitty came out, and now i finally have my motivation :)
Your Clapotis is gorgeous. When I first saw the pattern in knitty, I was not in love. Now looking at yours, I think I am inspired to put it on my "to knit" list. Happy New Year!
Clapotis looks great in those colors. Very chic and pretty!
You're making me want one now....
Now that I have seen your Clapotis, I must make one. Imitation is the best form of flattery!!
Very pretty. I love the greens. Aren't scarfy/wrappy/shoulder things fun? It's the perfect excuse to start buying all the pretty brooches that are out now.
Pure beauty. I want one just like it.
This gorgeous pattern is going to be with us for a very long time - I'd better get busy!
