Highs and Lows

Well, I finally finished Audrey's collar. Woohoo! She needs to be blocked in a big way. And I'll just throw her on a holder. I'm not binding off until that collar is on there. So it'll a be a sew and go until I know for sure that I have enough repeats to make it all the way around seamed. I see many, many pins and a spray bottle running outta water in my future. I must have been so tense knitting her that I lost a lot of the lacey detailing on the bottom. You can only see it if you s t r e t c h her out! There will be no reknit for this one though. No siree. And she's not blocking yet. I just couldn't wait to use my new blocking pins. Aren't they cute. I just love the little case too. I'm such a sucker for packaging. Clover notions rock. I wouldn't mind more of the cases for other notions.

Well, before I could get the victory dance in full swing (note to self, forgo all future victory dancing in regards to knitting), I decided to just do a quick pin and see to get an idea of the fit with the collar. Gasp! What is this. How could I have not seen this before (now let me stop fronting, I've not noticed worse than this, lol) . The ribs just stop and not at the right spots. I must say for this sweater this seams a bit odd as I have been lookin' at her f o r e v e r. Sometimes I feel like this is the sweater that will never be. Oh now I remember. While seaming I decided that I liked the wrong side bottom increases better than the right side. The side seams looked much better this way too. Guess I neglected to think about the top increases.

Do you see them?
The right side top increases are now on the inside.

What to do, what to do? I can't bear the idea of unseaming the entire sweater AND ripping the front and the back (yes it's the same way) , but I can't look at those other decreases when I know I prefer these.

UGH!

(sometime in a previous life i had a monster falling out with a girl name audrey and she has come back in the form of blue calmer with a VENGEANCE!)

ADDED: And on top of that low I have been ROBBED. Just went to my shopping cart and when I pressed continue to checkout this message popped up: We apologize, but while you were shopping the available inventory of item Peruvian Collection Highland Wool was purchased by another customer. 7 are currently available and this number has been included in your cart. Please review your order before proceeding. If you would like to remove this item from your cart, enter 0 for quantity (Qtty) and click update

I wanted 10, but I guess I only really need 7 for the pattern, humph. But still, after this audrey incident that's a low blow!
So much for a fiber remedy, hehe.

Hi Froggy,
First off, I must say, you have a wonderful site! Amazing projects and wonderful pics. Thanks for sharing them with us!!! As for your probs with comment spam. I had 'em too. Even contemplated stopping the whole blogging thing as it was bummin' me out. Anyways, I found this great plug-in and it seems to work:

Hope this helps and let me know if it does. Knit On!

Best,

NOOOO!!! Don't frog Audrey! Learn to love it!!! That would be such a shame! And that sucks about the Peruvian Highland Wool.

I hate knittin' days like that. I hope you find a better fix than starting over!!

Posted by: margene at November 22, 2004 02:48 PM

You could do what I did with my last baby vest project... pretend like nothing ever happened. I don't think anyone's is going to scrutinise the increases unless he/she is an Audrey knitter too. Yours still looks beautiful and that neckband is darling. So no worries, babe!

Posted by: lyn at November 22, 2004 02:54 PM

The lace looks beautiful! I'm so proud of you! I don't know what to tell you about the decrease situation. I know that I can never live with a flaw once I've found it. Maybe some miracle will occur and you'll see that it's okay.....

And so sorry to hear about the Highland Wool, but I bet they will order more. I am working on a Backyard Leaves scarf with that in Evergreen and I love it. Are you planning to knit the Ribby Cardi? I can't wait to see how that turns out. I'm am a little nervous about the zipper (Shades of Home Ec class disasters!), but I'm going to give it a try. Hopefully, Elann will restock the color you want. It's a GREAT buy!

Posted by: Martha at November 22, 2004 03:15 PM

Aw man! I feel for ya! I agree with lyn..Pretend like it didn't happen and don't frog. I really don't notice anything strange.

Posted by: Moni at November 22, 2004 03:16 PM

Is the problem on the front and back, or just one piece? Can you use the piece as the back and then ignore it? Whatever goes on behind your back doesn't exist! *LOL*

I agree with Joanne. If you can't see it, it doesn't exist, and no one here will tell, that's for sure. Audrey is looking way too nice, and you are WAY too close to the finish line to frog now!

I love me some clever packaging, too...those blocking pins are adorable. :)

Audrey looks great. I love the color.

Sorry about the Peruvian Wool, I've just accepted the fact that my color won't be left when I get paid at the end of the week.

Posted by: Christina at November 22, 2004 03:50 PM

I hope you find a solution for your Audrey which satisfies you! Don't get frustrated by this mishappenings!
Hope you find another nice colour for your ribby cardi.

Posted by: Marta at November 22, 2004 03:57 PM

It wasn't me! I didn't touch the Highland Wool! There has to be something you can do with Audrey and not rip her.

Posted by: monica at November 22, 2004 04:00 PM

I didn't swipe your yarn. Although, I've had my share. Good luck with Audrey. If at all possible, try not to rip it. You've come such a long way. It looks great no matter how you look at it.

Posted by: Lynette at November 22, 2004 04:33 PM

nooo!!!! what a sad posting!!! at least your collar looks awesome!! hope things get better!

Posted by: erika at November 22, 2004 04:46 PM

Am I seing things right. An Audrey collar? Beautiful! In my opinion...when she is all put together, nobody will notice. She will still look fabulous!! I know you will but you CAN'T frog her!!!

Posted by: Eilene at November 22, 2004 05:51 PM

Hi Froggy! The collar looks awesome... I wouldn't frog either... I don't think it will be noticable at all. I didn't have a good knitting weekend either... phooey!

Posted by: Karen at November 22, 2004 06:52 PM

don't rip her, she's beautiful! think design element! sorry about the yarn. now i keep hearing "swiper, no swiping!" in my head. there really isn't any legitimate reason why i should have a "dora the explorer" phrase in my head, since my daughter's too young for it. but i do. yikes.

Posted by: mrspilkington at November 22, 2004 07:14 PM

Since you've already seamed it, try it on! See if the increases really bother you that way. They might look like they were meant to be. It looks beautiful to me. I'm making an Audrey in blue, too. I hope mine turns out as nice.

Posted by: Béreni at November 22, 2004 08:05 PM

The WS increases may look better with the WS decreases than the RS incs would've looked. I don't think it'll look bad at all. That is such a great theory about the past life fight with an Audrey. I was so scared when I saw you'd been robbed! I'm glad it was just in spirit. Looking forward to hearing what you're doing with the elann wool.

Posted by: Lauren at November 22, 2004 08:28 PM

Sorry to hear about Audrey. What I can suggest is put it aside for a little while more, think about it later, maybe you can decide later what to do. And, I haven't seen those Clover blocking pins, they are too cool. Got to check out the lys.

Posted by: Siow Chin at November 22, 2004 08:51 PM

Don't frog the sweater! No one will be looking at those decreases but yourself, believe me. You shouldn't have to frog twice on the same project.

Posted by: Pioggia at November 22, 2004 09:17 PM

All I can see is beautiful knitting. It's hard for me to tell if the increase on the wron side thing will matter. I did my increases and decreases differently and it looks fine!

Posted by: Julia at November 22, 2004 09:53 PM

ok, after careful consideration, I say...

F-IT! Pretend it never happened! Only someone who knit Audrey would notice :) Besides, if you UNSEAM and RIP at this point, she will never make it...I think it looks great!

AS for the Peruvian Wool :( I'm sorry... dude, that SUCKS. What color was it? Have you seen the bag sale?

Posted by: Lara at November 23, 2004 12:16 AM

Sorry about Audrey... But the collar looks awsome and I'm sure nobody will notice the decreases! You did such a great job, don't frog it! All the best for finishing and for other WIP's!

Posted by: Sandra at November 23, 2004 05:12 AM

Nooo!! Don't frog it... it looks sooo lovely and it'll never survive the frog pond. Or you could send it to me ... I'll frog it for you (yeah, right!)

Posted by: mona at November 23, 2004 06:40 AM

Aw man, when it rains it pours. I know that feeling: When everything seems to go wrong and I feel like my knitting is not turning out the way I want. But honestly, I think Audrey looks GREAT, and that's no joke. Knit on! She'll get done!

Posted by: Becky at November 23, 2004 06:43 AM

I used the wrong side as the "right side" for my Audrey because I liked the way it looked. I can't wait to see it all finished! (Me thinks you might have to go to Rome now to wear it...)

Posted by: Cindy at November 23, 2004 10:27 AM

robbed! argh!

that happens to me on ebay all the time! outbid!

Love the blocking pins! come on, give us your source... :)

audrey. bleh. Mine (in pieces) is still rumpled in a bag I kicked under my bed...I do think you did a great job on the lace. As for the other...do you think you have the strength to redo her?

Posted by: heather at November 23, 2004 11:17 AM

I'm not sure what to say about the decreases. That's a tough one....

My Audrey (which could be the same blue) has been sitting in the same spot for a couple of MONTHS. It remains to be unseamed. However, seeing that you've gone back to yours, makes me want to finish mine.

The same thing happened to me with the Highland Wool. I contacted them and was informed more will be coming in January.

Posted by: Jeanine at November 23, 2004 06:09 PM

yea girlie, you have to be quick on the trigger for some of those online orders. people will snatch things up pretty quickly. i envy your sweater skills. you just keep knocking them out. :)

Posted by: erika at November 24, 2004 01:34 AM

DON'T RIP IT! Your Audrey looks lovely, and I can't wait to see the finished product, lace and all. It's going to look absolutely gorgeous on you.

Posted by: amy at November 24, 2004 07:47 AM

Okay, whoever stole Froggy's yarn, hand it over!

(That SO sucks... I hope those 7 skeins are enough. They should be plenty...)

Posted by: cari at November 24, 2004 12:01 PM

Hey, it's me again :) Just wanted to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving :) Eat and eat and eat.

Posted by: Erika at November 24, 2004 09:15 PM

Hi Froggy--sorry I am late to the comment party! So sad about the Audrey troubles... but I think that EI is right--you will not notice at all when you wear it. I love the blue you chose--it is so pretty.

So sorry about your yarn--hopefully 7 will be enough!

Hope to talk to you soon! :)

Posted by: Lauren at November 25, 2004 08:06 AM

Sorry about the problems you've had with Audrey, but you've chosen such a wonderful color and that collar looks amazing.
