Holiday Season
Halloween just ended and I already hear the buzz of busy holiday times. I feel a bit behind and Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. I received my Anthroplogie Gift 2004 mag last week and as always, it is filled with inspirational knits. Aren't those cover knitted cupcakes great! For starters there is this sparkle cardigan embellished with a gorgeous ribbon and I just adore this flowing gentle waves sweater coat. And I am always lovin' an oversized collar especially with embroidery in this garden sweater. There is also a cable pullover I find particularly interesting. Among the sweaters there are also knitted ornaments and how about these sweater ornaments. Soo cute! And to top themselves they even have knitted doggie sweaters. Check out those pearls! And gorgeous kid sweaters. But I have to say those knitted cupcakes are just delicious. My Boden Winter 2004 catalog also arrived which has a French Collar Cardi that reminds me of to one of my current projects, Flo. (I really need to update my on the sticks). Where is that sweater anyway? They also have a version with cables that I like.
Received the latest Vogue Knitting Holiday 2004 in the mail, too. I actually thought my subscription had run out so its delivery was quite a surprise. Though there were some interesting designs, I don't have any to add to my must-knit list from this issue. Not to say that there were not knits worthy of a cast on, but the few that I liked look similar to items currently on my list. However, I was quite taken with an article on British designers that featured Delphine...Wilson...designs. I am fascinated by the mere construction and beauty of her pieces and hope to find out more information and view other pictures of her work. Most of the other designers have been featured in past issues of Knitting. Also mentioned in this issue was Knit.1 which I first heard mentioned in Amy's post. I actually saw that mag this weekend in an unsuccessful search for the current Interweave Knits. I know my subscription has run out on that one. It seems like I end up buying every issue one year of a mag and then figure it will be more cost effective to subscribe, but then the moment I subscribe I end up with issues that I probably would not have purchased at the newsstand price. Ugh, a vicious cycle of sorts. But I forgot about IK altogether when I spotted Marie Claire Idees. I absolutely love that mag and hardly ever see it. I came out in Sept and it's taken 'til Nov for me to finally get my hands on it. This mag is never a disappointment. Now that was a long tangent. Though Knit.1 looked interesting it was not a must-buy for me as I have similar projects in other books or mags. I did, however find the cute, tiny, fit in the palm of you hand size very cleverly designed for fitting in any knitting bag. Vogue Knitting Holiday 2004 also gave mention of the upcoming R2 Autumn 2004. I am very curious to see this issue. And another ad has me pondering whether I should invest in sweater wizard 3.0. I've been thinking about it so long they have come out with a new version, lol.

I only wish the designer of the Anthropologie sweaters was writing up knitting patterns! Cool sweaters. Thanks for the reminder that the new IK is out. Time to run to the store!
The only thing that caught my eye in the Vogue holiday issue was the Delphine Wilson knitwear (http://www.delphinewilson.co.uk/) - looks to be all ready-made items though but a good starting point for inspiration! I'm looking forward to catching up with a few of the other magazines too.
Froggy, I love your magazines and book reviews.... This way I always know what I should buy and what I shoud leave. Thanks!
(Do you always get up that early???)
Of course, I just got a subscription to Vogue Knitting and no one seems to love the Holiday issue...le sigh...The Anthropologie catalog was amazing - I call the store an "Idea Store". This means that I won't pay the $$$ to buy their stuff, I'll just figure out how to make it myself. :)
Have a great week!
It looks like Anthropologie has done it again! I have yet to get this in the mail. I adore the cable pullover. Some day I will be clever enough to reproduce one of these fabu designs.
I always have the same problems with mag subscriptions. You are so good to us with all these pictures! Some people on the RAOK list are trying to figure out the pattern for that middle-cable Anthropologie sweater. It reminds me of a pattern from Rebecca 24 that has a middle cable (but not a cable within that, and it's done in all black).
Thanks for all of the book reviews! I too feel the same about subscriptions. I subscribed to IK and Vogue Knitting have yet to be impressed.
I like Anthropologie also, just wish they printed patterns.
Sweater Wizard is terrific. I've used it for years, and it's a great resource for designing.
I agree. Sweater Wizard to me was worth it's weight in gold. Download the demo and give it a try. (www.software4knitting.com/psweaterwizard/demo1.htm)
I love Marie Claire Idees because it has just a little bit of everything. Sewing, knitting, embroidery. I get it on time over here, so if you ever want to trade give us a holler :-)
Hmm! I really like that Flo pattern that you're knitting... It's Rowan, right? And I LOVE that cable pullover from the Anthropologie catalog...very cool.
I have such a love-hate with Anthropologie. I love going in there because it's always very inspirational, and they tend to have really interesting shapes and fabrics/fibers. But I hate that their salespeople tend toward the snooty, and that a nice sweater costs a small fortune! Maybe we should start a stealth campaign to get their designers to publish a knitting design book instead. Wouldn't that be fantastic?!?
i'm with all of you with the anthro catalogs. love them! i picked mine up on sat when i was in the store. last year at xmas the shops window dispay was all with read yarn, used in different ways. so beautiful. do you think that someone out there in blog land could come up with a pattern for those knitted cupcakes? they were as beautiful in person. laurie
oh mi god anthropologie- you will be the death of me woman!
You can order a subscription for Marie Claire Idees through Amazon. I love that magazine and could only find it at Tower Records. Once I found out that I could get a subscription, I jumped on it.
I hate to be an enabler (yeah right) but Anthropologie adds new things to their website nearly every day (and of course ordering online is a great way to avoid snooty salespeople). It's on my daily surfing route. I WILL figure out how to make that cable-front sweater! I confess that I actually tried to buy it, but it's not in stock yet, I guess.
I love your reviews!
Sharlyn beat me to the subscription for Marie Claire Idees advice. :)
I also love the magazine.
You have picked out lots of cool knits. Do you have any idea of what comes next? Love the cabled cardi.
Hurry so we can see!
Oh wow! Those cupcakes are divine! Anthroplogie is amazing! I could star at your pics for hours in awe ^_^!!
Now it's up to you to figure out the pattern for the knitted cupcakes for all of us. Where did you get Marie Claire Idees? And the mini-sweaters are so lovely
Thanks for all that! I *love* the Anthorpolgie sweaters. I also have Sweater Wizard. I *also* have Knitware Sweater design software... I use them both for different reasons. SW is *really* simple and easy to use. Each is very different in how they function and how powerful they are. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me. Rushing out now to see if I can get a subscription to Antrhopologie!
I've been eyeing those cupcake ornaments since I got the Anthropologie catalog in the mail. I've been tempted to order one, just so I can try to make one myself.
Glad I'm not the only one!
Those Anthropologie stuff are so nice. It's too bad they don't have patterns for their clothes line. R2 kinda scares me, their patterns are a little too messy for my liking. But I've seen a few knitters knitting some sweaters up from the first book and they looked nice. Maybe it's the way the knits are presented in the mag?
Oh I love those knit cupcakes!!! I'm not normally a froo froo decorations kind of gal but they are wonderful! I wonder if I can figure out the pattern... *ponderponder* I've never tried to just knit something that I've seen but I think I may have to give it a whirl!
One of those would be great on our tree this year!
Soooo, did anyone make up a pattern for those cupcakes yet?
