Froggy Knits

October 14, 2004

Audrey is back thanks to great knit buds!

With encouraging nudges from Eilene and Lauren I cast on for the Audrey collar, again. It was all going well until I noticed this (I knew I should have headed over to the Audrey Knitalong page for a refresher first, but I knew if I didn't cast on this very minute, I wouldn't start). I think (and I am just guessing) that I left out a row and of course it was on the fourth pattern repeat in. Ugh! I was soooo close. So after work I popped by Knit Happens and was greeted by Holly who is just one more reason to head over to Knit Happens. As always, she was helpful and is just an all-around great person to sit and knit with. As it turns out, in addition to the mistake, I wasn't that happy about the "look" of the lace". The yo's or yfrt's are not defined (more like downright sloppy). I have seen it on the web and in person (or do I say in knit, lol) and it didn't quite seem right. I was lucky enough to see Cindy's Audrey lace first hand. The diamond shapes were very defined (perfectly shaped). So I asked Holly, whose opinion I greatly value what she thought. Rip or put that bad repeat in the center of the back. And she gave me exactly the answer I needed to hear which was that I needed to rip it. It must be a skill to be able to put it as nicely as she did. Holly is the master of delivery! Interestingly enough, I don't usually need coaxing to rip, but this lace was a special case. It's only been holding up Audrey for..ev..er. So I left Knit Happens feeling really good about working on the lace again (Audrey is not going in time-out again.). Then I get home and there is the most specific, detailed well written fantastic way to approach the lace from Martha. As I keep checking my email, I run across even more awesome direction from Lauren and additional info and tools about lace knitting in general from Exina (love her lacework). Just the perfect ending to a knitting delimma that makes me want to try it again. Though the pressure is on now, with all these excellent tools and wonderful encouragement, I have never felt better about approaching the lace head on.

It's nice to know that even if you are not a knitting guru (though that was the cutest quiz and I do love to knit) that you are a part of a knitting circle that is filled with knitting goddesses.

Thanks! You guys are fabulous!

Glad the story had a happy ending! And I'm sorry I wasn't at KH to lend moral support for the ripping!

I'm so relieved that there's someone else out there who stalled on Audrey! I had to start the collar about...oh...five times, I think. I wasn't satisfied with the look of the lace either, but when I stretch it out, I think it will be OK. Thanks--you've inspired me to get cracking on finishing mine!

We must have been on the same wavelength with Audrey..I ripped her increases last nite and began them over for her front.

Excellent...it's good to get the old girl out to finish! :) looking good.

You are just way too sweet! I don't think that I would have survived yesterday if you hadn't arrived! :) I'm glad that you ultimately decided to rip it - you wouldn't have been happy with her if you hadn't... now, just keep those notes for me so when I finally take Audrey out of time out and finish her (which is a long involved story in itself, lol) I'll have some good lace instructions! :) Now I can't wait to see her!!

Froggy, good luck with Audrey. I got to see Eilene's in person last night, and it is such a lovely sweater. I can't wait to see yours--I know it will be great.

I am with you on the knitting goddesses thing--so nice to have a great knitting group (in person and online) around you!

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

I had a hadrd time with the lace collar of Aufrea, too. At tze beginning, I kept making mistakes and you just cannot rip out a little bit of it, you have to unreavel ALL. I am still unsatisfied with my Audrey collar. I have founf a small mistake in it and it keeps rolling inspite of blocking..... Good luck with it!
And congratulations, you are firm with your target of finishing your WIPs!

I love your blog - what a fantastic knitter you are! I have been monitoring the Audrey-along from the Knitting Biologist's blog, and I think your Audrey will be beautiful, too! Good luck.

Thanks for visiting my site! As far as getting a bike goes, I say go for it! It all depends on what you plan on doing with the thing! I waited way too long to get a bike, and it actually took me finding my boy (mike) to get me out there. if you are in the chicago area, or actually any area, i can recommend a good bike shop for you (hopefully), mike has pretty much contacted every bike shop out there through his work. ive had my bikes for about 4 years, and they have been through multiple UPS shippings, falling down hills and cliffs, being thrown, crashing, etc. so they are pretty hearty! but seriously, if you have a chance to mountain bike, do it! it is the awesomest awesome that ever awesomed.. er something.
speaking of which, you are an AWESOME knitter! how long have you been at it!!!??
