knitting at work

conference room with great lighting don't you think?
I always love to read the great knit at work posts over at
LollyKnittting Around and though I only have one co-worker that knits at my office (I'm working on a few others), I'm always happy whenever we can squeeze a knitting lunch in. Now I just love knitting with newbie knitters and they always open my eyes to things I wish I had grasped early on but another thing that gets me it their ingenuity in creating a notion when they don't know that one has already been developed. Just damn creativity at its best. My friend has started two projects and is hunting down yarn for another (future multiproject knitter, woohoo) but had expressed the need for another set of needles since the two projects require the same needle size. Well before I was able to find a spare pair and some holders in my stash, we met up and she claimed she didn't need the needles or any stitch holders anymore. I inquired if she had purchased a holder and before she could answer she pulled out
this! I guess who needs a stitch holder if you wear underwire. I found this absolutely hilarious and proceeded to fall out of my chair laughing (yes, I am easily amused). So before you throw out that brassiere, pull out that wire 'cause you never know when you may need a stitch holder. From boobholder to stitch holder....haven't seen that in any knit tip section of a magazine. And here is her
poncho that is currently occupying those needles now. I can just tell that I am going to en...joy knitting with her.
Before we could gather up our things and leave the conference room another co-worker walked in to ask how his favorite hookers were. Even though I have explained that there are crocheters (not knitters) that refer to themselves as such I continue to hear that word thrown about. However, my new knitting bud (and did I mention I taught her to knit, hehe) , who also crochets by the way, found this amusing along with the other looky lu's (and I know I used that phrase incorrectly, but it just feels right in this case) in the room. I continued to work on my sleeve for Chrissie and then was immediately asked why I knit with nunchaku (interesting spelling, don't you think). The things you learn from blogging. Would have never checked the spelling if it weren't for this post. I won't embarrass myself with the way I originally spelled it, lol. I'm probably the only one surprised by the spelling. I think I have even seen it misspelled in print. Wait a minute. Did I just misspell "misspell" Thank goodness for Merriam-Webster Online. All Merriam (yes we are on a first name basis) needs to do now is just add aka US17's to the definition. At this point in my at work knitting session someone just had to do a Japanese fight move imitating the motion using a nunchaku. Knitting at work has turned out to be a bit more interesting than I imagined.

Well at some point I also was able to knit on a new project, Bright Autumn. It has turned into the perfect knit on the go project with its 350+ rows of seed stitch and no shaping to start. The ideal NPR (no pattern required) project. I originally fell for this project when I saw it at Gidget Cast On. Leave it to Mindy to find some of the coolest patterns that I have ever seen. And when I saw it as a finished knit (scroll down a bit), I knew I had to have one. I am using Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Worsted. I originally purchased it for a Marsupial bag from Stitch 'N Bitch, but it never knitted itself up on its own so I decided to use it when the designer indicated that she had used this yarn for her Bright Autumn(I don't think this is indicated on the pattern, just the gauge). Though this is not a color (fuchsia) or fiber that I would ever have chosen for this piece, I am really lovin' it now. It's not as bright as in the pic and I am hoping that it softens in the wash. I don't have anything in this color and I am anxious to see how it works out. Hoping to dive in the stash and find something for the sleeves too though I am not using the suggested mohair in the pattern. I'll have to see what I can find.
(and yes i have used all the parentheses and run-on sentences alloted for this year. so i plan on dipping into next years for future posts, hehe)
And a supersized thanks for the kind words regarding mini and her molly.

I get my extra knitting in before/during class. I have one lecture where I can knit without being seen by the professor if enough people sit in the correct places. I love the boob-stitch holder. I just tossed a bra yesterday & now I'm thining about going back to save the underwire. As long as DH doesn't catch me, I should be fine.
What an excellent use of those annoying wires! It's so nice that your coworkers have an interest in your knitting. Lynette and I have to sneak around with our KAW sessions.
Thanks for your comments !!!
Lucky you are to knit at work !!
Omigosh, GENIUS. I have a few of those underwires in a drawer (no idea why I kept them), so this is destined, obviously. Thanks for sharing that tip!
Your daughter is such a lucky girl, love the bolero.
Hahaha... you learn something new everyday! At least now I know there's a use for bra underwires. I was about to toss out a few bras but I must remember to save their wires first! It's great that you have such terrific lunch partners. Whenever I mention that I knit to a friend, they will give me a look like I came from another planet or something. Thankfully I have someone like Mona on Thursday evenings to share the joys of this pastime with.
Froggy, sometimes I wonder if we're twins. You and I like to knit the same stuff! I have that Bright Autumn pattern too, but haven't gotten into it yet. That fuchsia actually looks really pretty - maybe you can use a nice chocolate brown or heather gray for the sleeves - YUM. Hey - thanks for the comments on my necklaces - I hope I sell a bunch this weekend. I'm also making rings.
Now I know what to do with my old underwires! Who'da thunk?
I'm so envious that you get to knit at work. If I had knit when I worked I probably wouldn't have squashed a couple of stress balls flat.
P.S. Your Rebecca cardi looks smashing!
You are a sweet little Frog! :) I love reading your posts!
Tell your friend that we love her genius idea. Now those awful annoying wires will be good for something (well, I guess they provide a little support...)
Love the pink the new project--so pretty.
Take care! :)
OMG underwires! I don't know what makes me giggle more: finding out that other women keep old bras for NO REASON like I do, or that I can recycle part of them. Genius!
Knitting with nunchaku? You truly are a bad ass knitter.
Ingenious idea! Very funny...I am having the same experience at work. I taught my friend to knit and she is AlL into it now :). It's fun to watch her progress along.
I just started a knitting group at work. I posted a sign saying that I would be there at a certain time if anyone wanted to join me. So far I've been helping a woman relearn how to knit. Her mother taught her the continental style of knitting which I have not used so it is an interesting experience for me. I hope to learn something from that!
yay! i love knitting at work. we are so lucky as to only have 6 total people in the office, and 4 who knit and crochet. so when a certain few people are out of town, we have little parties when theres not too much to do! its great, becasue we rarely knit together and always learn new stuff. :) dont you wish we could knit for a living? and keep the projects too!
thank you so much for the laugh today!!! never thought to use my underwires in such a way!!!! have a great weekend/end:)
storm
I'm falling out of my chair! If that's any indication, you'll be having a mighty fine time while knitting at work!
Thanks for your nice comment about my pansy box. It's a keeper.
Cool thoughts in your post. Sometimes on Saturdays, a co-worker and I knit together at the Library Desk. Patrons are always commenting on our activity. It's sort of fun. And otherwise we'd just be trolling the net looking for pictures of cats wearing clothing or something. So it's time well spent.
Oh, and thank you for your comments on my new scarf. My friend Yoko made it for me, in a trade for some paintings I did for her. Sweet Swapping!
I cant believe thats how you spell that word! I would have spelled in nunchuck!
Love the lunch time story! It sounds like so much fun to have co-workers to knit with!
To knit at work... lovely... I'm turning green with envy!
How do you do that? I'm still working on the same tunic for the past six months and you keep producing the most beautiful objects d'art. Are you a machine?? How do you knit so fast?
You and skinny rabbit are two of the knitting wonders of the world. They are going to put your faces on the Mount Rushmore for knitters, I just know it. Wait, you do use a machine to knit, don't you? You must have a team of knitters? You two are giving me an inferiority complex! :-)
I'd pay good money to watch you do what you do, because it must be really something. Yarn flying, needles clacking, and everybody running for their lives.
hmmm, it's a mystery.
I work by myself... but have meetings all the time. People basically pay for my undivided attention, so knitting during meetings doesn't work, but AT work is peachy. "Flo" is beautiful. Perhaps i should stop writing and get back to the needles. Hmmm. do you think we could sell the extra underwires on eBay?
LOL What a wonderful idea for all that underwire, it must be so nice to knit at work. I love the color you're using for your Bright Autumn.
