September 14, 2004Inspiration...Knitting... FoodAnthropologie continues to inspire... click to enlarge photos And I can't wait to check out the Sept. Glamour Mag. Looks what's coming up. I just love that hat! I finished the back of the Apricot Jacket (pattern 25) from Rebecca 27. It is in need of a good blocking, but it'll have to wait for the other pieces. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I imagined it would be and it wasn't long before I was in the groove of the charted pattern and sequence of the increases/decreases. Also finished up a scarf for my mini . She wears it with her dress up clothes as a boa mostly at this point. She adores it, but I have to say it may be her last boa as I am not too crazy about knitting with novelty yarns. The texture is pretty cool though. And Green Ribbed Sweater (also know as orange) from Rebecca Nr. 20 is back with the much needed St. st that appeared in the pattern pic. click to enlarge photos And why didn't anyone tell me there was a Penang (Malaysian Cuisine) in the metro DC area?! I just love that restaurant. Haven't seen it since we moved from NYC. And it's been here all along. Here's my absolute favorite...Roti Canai At this location the pancake was really crispy compared to the chewy ones that I have had before to accompany the curry chicken dipping sauce. I prefer it not sooo crispy, but I can't complain. I lost the power of speech until every drop of that sauce was sopped up by that pancake. Yum....my! Comments
Those Anthropologie knits are definitely an inspiration. I love getting ideas from looking at magazines and catalogs. Your knits are beautiful~I am particularly enamoured with this green ribby one. Beautiful! Thanks for mentioning the Penang place~I woudl love to try it out. I am going to DC several times a week now, so I should be able to fit it in :) Posted by: Lauren at September 14, 2004 06:44 AMIt's great that you like roti canai. I have it for breakfast at least once or twice a week. I told you that the Rebecca cardi is not that difficult and it's fun to knit! Looking forward to seeing it completed and modeled by you. Posted by: Marta at September 14, 2004 07:13 AMAnthropologie is so inspirational! The pale blue sweater looks very similar to the Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora Rosy sweater. Posted by: Shelby at September 14, 2004 08:46 AMI just walked by Penang yesterday on my way home from class and decided that's where I was having dinner next week. (If I had remembered to bring, you know, MONEY yesterday, I would have eaten there then. Malaysian food is heavenly... See you Wednesday? Posted by: Shanti at September 14, 2004 10:01 AMThere's a Phildar sweater in the summer issue that looks almost exactly like that Anthropologie sweater on the bottom left. I've been iffy about knitting it but now I'm sure I'm going to. The apricot sweater is simple to knit once you get into the groove. My problem is that I knit without reading the pattern thoroughly. I really would love to knit it in aplaca. Posted by: sharlyn at September 14, 2004 12:10 PMMmmmmm, Penang. I've only been there once but it was delicious. I wasn't aware that it's a chain, interesting. There's another Malaysian restaurant on that street, I believe it's called Malaysian Kopitiam, it's also very good. The vegetarian duck gets my seal of approval. Love the apricot jacket! The design is just too beautiful. I'll be excited to see your finished product. Posted by: Jenna at September 14, 2004 12:14 PMGosh, you've been busy! All looking great - I've got something like the boa-yarn going on for a collar and cuff trim on a denim jacket for my middle daughter. I've got it worked out it my head apart from the actual fixing.... Posted by: Anita at September 14, 2004 01:02 PMlove that anthropologie catalog! i'm such a dunce with that rebecca cardi. frogged it last night. will try again after i can figure it out. Posted by: deb at September 14, 2004 04:40 PMHey, I'm from Penang! It's a lovely island and the food there is like no other. Unfortunately, I moved to Kuala Lumpur with hubby and only get to make infrequent trips back to my parents'. Roti canai is really common in Malaysia. There are roti joints at every corner and most are opened 24 hours. Yum! The scarf for mini looks great. I know what you mean about novelty yarns but they are fun once in a while. Posted by: lyn at September 14, 2004 08:58 PMFroggy, Roti canai looks so yummy! We don't have really authentic ones here in HK and I miss them. The Rebecca cardi is looking great! Posted by: Siow Chin at September 14, 2004 09:33 PMOkay, now I'm hungry.... Posted by: Rachael at September 15, 2004 07:32 AMYou made me so hungry with that post. Yum! Posted by: amy at September 15, 2004 08:08 AMFunny - when we moved here to DC from New York, one of the first things on my list was to find the nearest Singaporean/Malaysian restaurant. Penang is definitely as authentic as you'll probably get in the DC area. Kopitiam and Straits Cafe are all right, but less so than Penang. This is so fun! I saved the anthropolgie catelog just so I could try and figure out how to knit the cover sweater. I love them as well.... Posted by: wlpr at September 15, 2004 11:29 AMI am LOVING that dragonfly sweater. Dunno what's up with my obsession with asymmetrical cardi's, but every time I see one I'm inspired to make it. Now I have to decide which to start with - a sweater like that one or a cardi-wrap. Posted by: xtina at September 15, 2004 01:18 PMI think I have some similar if not the same novelty yarn to make a scarf for Brooke with. Patons or Sirdar something, I forget the details.. I love that apricot jacket, I've seen a few of them around and should really add it to my knit one day list! Posted by: kerrie at September 15, 2004 03:56 PM |
