Not exactly my idea of a rip-roaring good time
Here are a few projects that need a little more attention.
At this point I have abandoned all Olympic knitting in the future.
We'll start with the mini sweater.

In my can't take my eyes off the tv during the Olympics trance, I have knit too far. It is now too long and too wide for some reason. However, I am lovin' the color and I actually like the fit, just not for the minisweater. Now that I look back it looked a little big here too. I have thought of ripping the last inch or so and knitting straight down to make a cardigan. I love the way 50 stitches just became the back, sleeves, and front panels. Its just not tight enough to pull of the minisweater look (or is this how the boobholder looks on the boobless, lol) I don't want to rip yet until I can identify exactly where I went wrong, but I am thinking at this point that I would prefer the look of a variegated yarn over the solid. I actually have enough manos to make a full cardigan, so may I just reknit this in something else. Oh well. The button falls well below its intended position and unless I want to consider this to be the ballerina inspired look, I better reknit.
Now to orange you mad. Now that I ripped the top I decided to reevaluate the body of the sweater to reduce bulkiness (if that's possible). I think its a tad too roomy. So orange you glad to orange you mad is now orange...you...sad. Back to square one on that one.
And then there's Grace...Grace....Grace.
Look at this tragedy. Luckily a little ripping down an inch or so on a couple of pieces will remedy most of this drama. Surprisingly this ripfest only has me a little down. But I could still use a little cheering up.
So there's only one thing to do. START SOMETHING ELSE.

hmmmm, what should you knit with mom?
I just love how Point 5 knits up. Check out the toscano swatch for the flounce trimmed jacket. Here is the beginning of the back.

This wool really got me thinking about winter clothing. Coincidentally a JCREW catalog arrived in the mail. I just love this wool coat. And in my favorite color too! I also need a transition suit, so I am hoping that this lightweight wool twill suit will help me ease into my winter gear.
Also in the mail was this " Tendances" - Automne/Hiver 2004-2005

Here are a few of my favs. And I must say that I am more interested in the construction of these than the overall look. The first pick is knit in two pieces from sleeve to middle(and I just love that cap). The second has an overlay piece to be stitched over the sweater. Not sure I will take this route in completing this sweater, but it does look cool. Here's another color with a closer view. And I just love the mixture of yarns used for the last one in colors that I would not typically wear, but I love the look of it with the different textures mixed together. I may even try those exact colors.
Oh, Phildar, so much to love! I have yet to see a mag I don't like. And I just can't wait to get my hands on " Tendances " - Hiver 2004-2005. You can't always see the details of the sweater in those size pics, but Phildar never lets me down. I know I won't be disappointed.

Sorry about your rip fest. I'm sure you'll end up making something very satisfying. And definite eye-candy with the Colinette. Those colors are gorgeous.
I also like the new looks of the Tendances magazine. Not sure if I'd wear any of the patterns though.
Ripfests can be brutal...So glad you haven't reached that point of wanting to give up knitting (my general attitude when it comes to ripping). I think the flounce jacket will look great on you, and tell the mini that the new hair-do is just lovely...
Also I vote for a cardigan if you have that much yarn...
I really like the ballerina mini jacket look on you! I hate ripping, so if it were me, and it looked that could, I'd be making some I cord, and wearing it like that. Hope the rip fest goes well, I'm sure you'll be much happier with the end products.

Ripping is so cathartic, isn't it? I'm sure your Grace is going to turn out wonderfully - can't wait to see it! That picture of your daughter is great! A young and female and much, much cuter version of George Clinton. :)
I really like the ballerina style of the minisweater! I think it looks great on you, and I am all for "making it your own". Let me know if you are interested in coming to Bowie for a trip to Folk Art Studio--I would love to meet you! ... one more thing, Colinette is the most beautiful stuff ever...especially on your daughter's head! :)
sorry about your luck - I'm in the same boat as you. For a week now - nothing is successfully. I guess the back of Grace is a bit long? Oh well. The colour of the boob holder is great, but if it is too long, I think it would look funny. Good luck with your decisions.
And the wool your daughter has on her head? FANTASTIC. I love the colour and texture.
I totally agree with everyone that the ballerina look is definately the way to go. It looks great that way!
I agree with you in the Phildar mags too. They just have the greatest patterns.
Sorry to hear about the ripfest - just think of it as a new beginning!
I got the Phildar Fall book last week too. I love their patterns expecially the stripe sweater using different texture yarn. I am think to order the yarn kit now ! Avout the Hiver issue, do you know if they are going to have an English translation ? If so, I definitely will order it.
Cute mini pic. I just love the flounce jkt that I saw on the net made out of Colinette wild berries... Colinette and Manos Varigated are on my "to do" list after I sucessfully finish my first pure and simple sweater (boring).
Here's another vote for the ballerina mini sweater!
Love the colinette wig!
I like the ballerina look too! I think it would look divine like that over a slip dress...
ohhh..dont tell me the lace on audrey has you challenged...I am finishing up her front and then it's onto the lace...
I like the last tendances stripey pulli...sooo cute...I am with you...I love their stuff
My boob-holder ended up the exact same way - and I made it significantly smaller than the pattern! Considering myself a beginning knitter, I have to say it's gratifying that someone who clearly makes beautiful things came across the same bumpiness as me. I've decided to go with the wrap sweater look and try the BH look again...good luck with yours!
I ripped out two projects this weekend, too! Perhaps something is in the air. For me it was total catharsis, though. It's nice to just say to h*ll with it and move one. I, too, need something new!
first of all, I love the Alex sweater, it looks great on you even if it is just a basic sweater.
your daughter looks too cute in her new wig and you always seem to find the best catalogs.
Are they printed in English?
I'm also loving that ballerina look for the mini sweater. I think that's a nice way to go without having to redo your work. I can totally relate to the "Olympics watching and knitting don't mix" thing :). who would have thought that the Olympics would be so damn exciting?
Yet another vote for the ballerina version of the mini sweater - it may be too cute for rippin'.
Ooh, the Collinette sweater is going to be so pretty.
I agree with everyone else! The ballerina look is nice!
Hi - love the Toscano swatch; where is the Flounce Trimmed Jacket pattern from and what is the yarn/colorway you are using? Thank you!
