March 16, 2004We interrupt our regularlyscheduled knitting for this newsflash. Have a friend that is due in six weeks. I don't really enjoy making the generic yellow and green we don't know if its a boy or a girl gifts. Decided to wait until after baby is born to make gender specific gift. However, just found out that she is having a shower in 10 days and feel compelled to give her a knitted gift as she is one of the few people I know who are sooo appreciative of handmade items and understands the effort it takes to make them. She is still thanking me for the last few items that I knitted for her. And she uses them all the time! Don't you just love that! What can I make with a 10 day deadline? Comments
Booties and a hat! Or a little cardi that buttons up the back. That's what babies over here wear, and they're unisex. (Problem with button up cardi's or cross-over cardigans is that not all are unisex - the girls' cardi crosses one way, and the boys' the other, etc.) Re color, why not go for a cream or oatmeal? Posted by: Becky at March 17, 2004 06:32 AMI always opt for hats. Personally, I HATE pastels, so I always do baby stuff in deep, bright colors - - which works out well, because almost everything else the baby has is usually pale pink, blue, or yellow. My baby's favorite 6-12 month sweater (OK, it was really my favorite) was made by a friend in 3 colors of Manos, and it got more compliments than I could count. Joy at Knit&Pearl turned me on to that idea and it has always been a big hit. Also there is a free pattern for a mini-kittyville hat (minus the ears) over at WillKnitForFood and those are also super quick and cute! Oh and I haven't forgotten about the flower pattern, just no time to dig it out... Posted by: Georgia at March 17, 2004 12:57 PMI always do a hat on short notice. They are so cute and tiny...there are some really good baby hat patterns for free online. Posted by: Carrie at March 17, 2004 01:55 PMI knit the bee suit in a week.
